i got the old gen 1 1990 magna hand mi down car n seein how it has no balls at all (auto, carby) i figurew i may aswell have something decent in it so i can at least try and drown out the struggling engine noises..

at the moment it has:
sony xplode 4x45 watt head unit (CDXL460X)
2 6inch xplode speakers in the parcel shelf
the stock speakers in the front

pretty much no bass and shocking sound quality

what would be the best thing to do with a budget of bout $300

do i need a new more powerful head unit?
amp to power sum new speakers?

i kinda wanna keep it 6 inch in the back cause when i sell i wanna just chuck the old system back in..

do 6x9 fit on the parcel shelf of gen 1's without cutting or lifters?

any help would be appreciated

$300......frig me you wont get much for that!
im guessing
a basic pair of splits...should be about $80
that leaves $220
you could pick up a BOSS amp for $100 give or take???
then a 10-12" sub in box (cheapo) for around $100

and for $300 (or around abouts) you should have some fairly decent tunes.
$500 might get you some better rear fill and front fill, but if thats all you got well thats all ya got

EDIT*
you can use the BOSS amp to power the sub and the front/rears, then run the remaining set, weather that be front or back off the HU

By memory you need to cut the holes for 6x9 speakers. I have some spare Eclipse 6.5" (front) and Eclipse 6x9's (rear) sitting here. I also have a spare 4 channel Pioneer amp which would compliment the speakers. Maybe we could do a deal? They would be perfect for more tunes without going all the way with Subs etc. Your budget just won't allow it.

I've got a subwoofer here that I can sell to you for $100 that'll put your ears shaking. All you need is a box and an amp.

Can Speakers fit in the Doors of a First Gen?? , as theat would be the first Upgrade..

Dont worry about 6x9's

Look at getting the Fronts done as this is where your sound will be suffering most'

With a Budget of $300, you are not going to get much of a Sound Improvement..

yeah my budget isnt huge but hey i dont get my licence for another 3 weeks haha

ralliart410 wot sort of a deal are we talking here.. are you sayin i could take the lot off your hands for $300 cause if you are i would seriously consider it..

really not phased about the whole sub deal atm its just my first car i can thrash to hell and learn the roads till i buy something nice.

Magnat.. fronts would need doing but i think its a power issue i got.. definately wont get serious sound as the cars probly worth around $1000 and id rather save for a new car than pour hundreds into this one.. just want some decent tunes

Sure does, you gotta cut metal in these first gens to get somewhere.

Well the head unit is ok as long as it has RCA output, for $300, hmmmm. Second hand sub and box, boss amp for about $100 that will power the sub plus the rear speakers. Then buy some nice 4" to replace the stock ones and run them off the headunit. Looking at about:
Amp $100 - $150
Sub and box anywhere between $50-$100, i have 3 subs and 2 boxes i may be able to do a deal on 1.
Amp wiring $30
4" speakers $50
That'll easily bring you under $300 and will give you an ok system.
Generally the amp you get wont matter too much, i have 2 of the cheapest amps you can get probably running my system, and they go ok (but dont expect them to match an eclipse/alpine system). They will sound much better than stock though.

So basically providing your current HU has RCA out, you should be pretty safe. The SQ will be bad because the stock 4" speakers are hunks of junk.

i have a 4x250w (maybe around 4x100wrms?) bridgeable boss amp that doesn't have a home...

*OR*

sony '222w' 2 channel bridgeable amp

which ever one i get rid of, the other one will power my front splits or my 6x9's... i recently aquired a 4x100 response amp for my doof doof

pm me if anyone is interested
