Hey guys, my tyres on my verada are balding on the the shoulders on the side closest the guard, to offset this ive run fairly high tyre pressures to get the tyre to wear more evenly across the face of the tyre. This has not worked, now im left with a tyre thats bald on the one shoulder and perfect grip on the other parts of the tyre. I realise i have to change them, and also rectify the problem of it happening again. It currently runs 205/65/R15 Bridgestone (or Dunlop?) RE92's. Now id like a tyre with the same or a bit better grip threshold and long lasting in a 215/45/R15 size. Also to curb the problem of wearing the shoulders out, would a bit of negative camber help out? I do give my car a hiding around corners at time. What sort of setup up with castor and toe etc to prevent this happening and crispening up the handling of the car. Thanks, any help or advice on where to do this in sydney for a good price will be much appreciated.

you have too much +ve camber. Get a wheel alignment and get them to adjust the toe-in
and camber. I don't think the castor is adjustable on the 2nd gens. Camber isn't adjustable
by default. You'd have to purchase a camber bolt for each front wheel.

215/45/R15 would be too small in OD for your car. 215/60/R15 would be a better bet but try
and find a 215/60/R15 tyre. You need to make sure that the overall diameter remains the
same or you speedo and odometer will be out.

OD is calculated as: for eg 205/65/R15,
2x205X0.65 = 266.5mm
15X25.4=381mm
OD = 266.5 + 381 = 647.5

Thus for 215/45/R15:
2X215X0.45 = 193.5
15x25.4 = 381
OD = 574.5

Thus when the speedo says 60, you'd be doing 54.

The problem that you have is that the car you have does not have a rear sway bay.

I had a KS wagon and scrubbed out 2 sets of tyres before realising that the problem was that the thing wanted to understeer all the time

After I got a Whiteline rear sway bar fitted then the problem want away. It was even better with a thicker front bar and caster bushes as well.

The other bonus is that yopu can probably go through roundabouts and round corners about 10 kms faster!!

Have a look on the Whiteline site in thew Technical section about FWD cars and rear sway bars.
