Dec 2002 I think - none were sold to the public - either demo cars or fleet sales (I read that somewhere, can't remember now). Portside mitsu had a really nice daintree green verada (same colour as mine :) ) for ages, dec 2002 I think, same rego as used in the Autoweb reviews. Even though it had low kms, it would have been thrashed by reviewers, read the review about that vehicle, they admit it
My standard AWD (march 03) is ex-rental (they all were in SA at the time I bought it). It's not had any problem (yet anyway)
Mitsubishi owns Thrifty - thats why they use them
(mine was from Delta VIC)

BTW, don't worry about the build date too much, all TJ AWD's sell for much the same (they only made them for 6 months before the TL kicked in)
The specs on the base AWD are pretty good, power windows, cruise, leather wrapped wheel and gear handle. The stereo bites though - I replaced mine with a TJ verada one (Cheers Jay!), even without changing the speakers (6, but only 4 actual speakers), the improvement is incredible.
Here in SA (cars are more expensive here), they are less than 20 grand (18-19 range). Sounds good until you see an equivalent 2wd magna is around $13000. Believe me though, these are nice cars. They hoon around corners like nothing I've ever driven, but fuel usage is higher... Worth the money, if you plan to keep it a while
My guess, avoid dec 2002 if it is not a rental, it may be a motoring test mitsu demo car. they did some nasty **** to those cars...

Not many TJ AWD around now at dealers, mainly TL's that fetch $20,000 plus. I think the TJ is higher than it should because the preceived 'ugliness' of the TL. Personally, I think the TL AWD are fine, except of the wheels. They are naassttyy!!!
TL VRX's are great, esp. in red!
I've been following the prices here in sa closely, and certain dealers have been offering the same cars for 6 months at those prices, and no one has bitten (I know - as I looked at them before I bought mine 6 months ago). I think they would be in a position now to negotiate. I'm sure it's the same interstate.
BTW, if you rich :), you can get a new TW Verada GTVI AWD for $35000 on the road, wonderful value, not that I could afford it!

I picked up my(wifes now) KJII AWD Verada a few months ago which is a Dec 02 for $20k. It is in brand new condition and is fully loaded with everything from an XI in it. It only had 50,000k's on the clock.
Cant beat that for value.
Had a bit of piss farting round with RACV trying to insure it as they have no listing for an 02 KJII AWD Verada. Their listings start in '03. They have it down as an '03 but state in the policy that it was built '02. It was first reg in Jan '03.

I got my 2003 TL TR AWD about 6 weeks ago for just under $20000 before trade in. Ex cop car with 80k on the clock, full service history, new tyres, and they gave me 3 free services with it.
Plus its still under new car warranty

Which GTR's are they?? The last GTR was produced in August 2002 and there were 20 more made for Nismo in January 2005. They are called the Z-Tune. Nine have been finished and all 20 have been sold already for US$170,000.
Nissan isn't producing the GTR Proto yet. It is now a big secret again accoring to Nissan and thier Proto website www.gtrproto.com
Sorry for getting carried away, I am a huge Nissan fan
