just a question has anyone had problems with thier trip tronic where the speedo stops , stays in 1 gear and the lights for the park,netural, and drive don't light up

if your talkin about the lights in the instrument cluster, then i dont have that problem, but i know my + and - lights dont work on the surround, and also, sometimes it doesnt feel like the shifter wants to go into the sequential gate.. kind of crunches.. doesnt worry me that much becuase i hardly ever use the tiptronic..

okay well mine today for some reason the speedo stoped work the lights for the auto stop lighting up and it was stuck in 1 gear so i am assumng its a electical problem had to get it towed to the dealer they will look at it tommorow.

i cant really understand your problem.. is the gearbox locked in 1st or something and as such you cant turn it on? im confused... at this stage i have had no transmition problems at all with my TL

luckily it sounds like an electrical problem like you said, hopefully the hardware (the actual gearbox) is fine and you only have to fix the electricals, and not the whole box. The ECU controls the gearbox in TL's doesnt it? maybe you need a new one of them????

okay this is what happen:

sunday i went to the tip towed a trailer, goto the tip and when i was starting to reverse the trailer in , i went foward a bit to align myself and it wouldn't move at all.

I got it moving revesed it in,finished empyting the trailer and went hm.

going hm i notice the light for the P,N,D,1,2,3,4,5 wheren't lighting up, the speedo wasn't working and it was stuck in 3rd gear( which i finaly found out)

Got it towed to the dealer, they rang me up today told me it was a fuse that had blown. They asked me if i was doing towing and i said yes,
They said the trailer may have blown the fuse, faulty wiring or plug on the trailer.

So this whole drama was cause by 1 fuse hard to belive but it did it.

I read somewhere that a lot of damage can be done to a car (especially the security system) by
plugging a high voltage power source into the trailer plug. The reverse light on the trailer may be
earthing out or something and causing the fuse to blow as you said it happened after you used the
reverse gear.

That's what a fuse is for - to stop any damage happening in the first place.

Yes, but give it enough juice and it'll jump the gap.
When we got the handover to our new house, the circuit breaker kept tripping when I tried to use
a kettle. I thought it was becuase my wife washed the kettle and water may be in the contact so
left it at that as I have been using drills etc without any problems. But when we moved in proper.
The circuit kept tripping as soon as we hooked up the fridge and tv. Called ERS and found out that
a three-phase wire was earthing across a 5mm gap to the metal cabinet.

You can hardly compare a 12v car system (or is the trailer 6v?) to a 3-Phase electrical connection in a house.

There is no way that it could jump after the fuse is blown.

okay I was doing some test on my car and trailer today to find out why its happening, its seems that who ever put the tow bar in did the wiring wrong, I even went to a towbar place to get it checked, the left indicator dosen't work and when i put the brake on the left indicator goes on :nuts: . its a factory fitted towbar so going do to mits tommorw to see if its covered under warranty so they can fix it up.

Hey dude, I'm new to these forums, but the same thing happened to my TL..

We were towing a trailer to the tip and we were turning left out of the tip and the car just disengaged gear and was stuck in neutral, speedo was dead, and the Gear selector status was dead.

We turned the engine off, then back on again and the car was stuck in limp mode (ie, one gear i think and 2500rpm max.) we took it home replaced the fuse and that was it, back to reap3r TL :P.
