Anyone switched the Up/Down selectors in their tippy? It's just starting to feel more natural to me to pull the stick rather than push it to grab the next gear. Thoughts?

sorry..... not likley.
*bain edit* Keep your one eyed idiotic views off these forums.. If you have nothing to give to the thread, dont bother posting in it.
look, if someone is asking for our thoughts....then we are entitled to give them...not be shot down by people with their own but different opinons.....all my thoughts were is that i am not likely to do it either because i have a MAGNA and like it the way it is cos it is different to a ford.....be NICE!!!!!so many people have their own opinons...that is what these forums consist alot of.......maybe someone might want to consider this when deciding.

That's one thing I didn't like about the tippy when I test drive one. First mod I would have done. Second would have been to mount a big dummy clutch pedal so my left hoof would have something to do :bowrofl:
It looks so stupid when you nearly kick through the firewall looking for the clutch  .... but I digress.
I guess you prefer it that way because to shift down a gear in a manual, you usually tend to go from 4th to third, which is the same motion. Also slamming 1st to 2nd... you are pulling back. Why make the tippy the other way around? Makes no sense.
Anyone else modded their tippy? Hmmm, steering wheel-mounted buttons anyone? F1 Paddles?

I think MMAL were working on the "I wanna go faster, push forward" and the "I wanna stop, whoa back" principles.
Hence I like to drive manuals, no going thought the windscreen for me... yet.

The Magna tiptronic is apparently extremely similar to the FTO's, so this write up should help for anyone wanting to do this mod:

Personally, I don't like F1 style paddle shifting, I tried it out on the old man's Statesman, it was horrible to use, and I tend to change gears whilst turning sometimes, which of course you can't really do when the gears are on the steering wheel :P Maybe it was because it was the first time I used it...

shouldn't be too hard.. isn't it just a + and - voltage to tell the tranny which way to shift?

Thats my theory. I've got an electronics repair bag-o-tricks if I need to cut and paste. Will try it one rainy day at the carwash.

That’s the first thing I did to my vrx when I had it .Its very easy the witches have a common ground for both switches with separate positives so I just cut the positives and switched them around.

didn't realise the falcons were the other way? are the magnas the only ones to have this configeration? i think it actually would be more natural the other way IMHO

i thought about doing it, but ive had my car for a year now and im used to the way it is...
my main gripe is when i get brainfade and think its in tippy when its really in drive. come fanging out of a corner and slam the lever forward to grab the next gear... box makes a funny noise when you try and grab reverse lol...

Didn't mitsubishi toy with the idea of having buttons on the steering wheel to change the gears ????? I dunno maybe something that i overheard that i shouldn't have.

Doesn't the gear stick lock in at Neutral at its uppermost position (assuming you're not pressing on the locking button.)

The majority of car companies make their tippys the same as the magna.

The current model Lancer VRX has that feature.

I think you push it up becos youre changin up gears, and down becos youre changin down gears?

I just feel it's more natural to down change into the manual "3rd gear" position when slowing down, and pulling 2nd/4th to go faster (from 1st). I'll get to it and see what evolves.

I've driven a falcon and a magna tiptronic and i reckon the falcon one felt more natural. I would be curious to know who decides which one to use. One thing I do know is that the directions can be changed around. The 2 Ralliart prepared AWD TL magnas which ran in the aussie car class in the ARC both had their tiptronics switched around as the drivers found it easier. Unfortunatly, Ralliart has just a wee bit more knowledge and funding than most of us do. Proves it can be done though. I'd ask an auto trans specialist, see what they reckon.
P.S Imagine you had a falcon and a magna as your two cars, that would be a ***** to get used to.

It was some notes I took from talking to Steve Bell at Ralliart that actually jogged my memory on this. I also drove a Falcon auto for a week and found it more natural.
