View Full Version : Offer $100 for installing Stereo
Chantra

Hey guys,
just a quick question:
I want to install my stereo into my 98 Wagon.
Of course, I am able to do this myself - The technical part of this is NFP (No F-cking Problem)... but its the cosmetics which worry me - I always get them to sound great...but one can always see that I installed it...Its just not my cup of tea!
Here is the offer:
I am looking for someone to professionaly install the following into my car:
1 x 4 channel AMP - no idea where it should go..it should be out of sight (under seat, perhaps?)
1 x active Subwoofer tube (Sub with built-in amp) - Subwoofer tube goes in the back
switch rear stock speakers from stock to JL Audio
switch front speakers from stock to pioneers
preferably change stock speaker wiring to propper speaker cables
I have all needed parts and Amp-connection kits - but no tools and no "nerve" to do it myself.
I will pay $ 100 to anyone who can do this installation really well - as early as possible please! (Mr. Impatience again).
Please PM me if you can do it - once again: it should be done by someone who is really ood in installing these things.
I need an answer quickly!
Thanks, guys!

except im a little far away. an install like that would take about a day to do really well, so maybe 5-6 hours of work. 50 bucks an hour for a very non technical thing doesn't sound right to me thats all.

i would'nt do it for 100 bucks ... to much work specially to rewire the speakers
even where i work would charge $50 an hour to do it

LOL...
I go several "bashings" as to why I am using the SubTube with installed Amp, and not go for a "propper" one.
Well -
I got that Tube at ebay for change....and I want to try it out. If it is useless, then i will get a different setup for subwoofer...but I will try out the bargain first.

$100 for all that Work..., I mean you have provided all essentials EG wiring and all , $100 Labour isnt too bad...
Hell I charged McDonalds for Installs.... AS In, You get me what ever I want at McDonalds for Dinner... ( You have to meet certain Criteria to get that Rate though)
Most Installers charge $65 an Hour...
You have to find an AMC member in your hood that will do it for the Love of Installing Car audio, then Post it in the AMC Boot of Fame and list them with the Credits....

I'd do it for $100 for sure! The hardest thing you want done is the re-wiring of the front speakers, all the rest is pretty easy.
I remember in my old car i refused to pay a rediculous amount to install a sub and amp, so even though i had never done it before, i researched a bit on the net and gave it a go myself. I did it all, except couldnt get thru the firewall, so i took it to Strathfield and said "i just want you to get this wire thru the firewall, thats it!! I do not want you touching anything else OK".
Took him 1 minute but still charged $10 lol oh well, could finish the job myself then.

I'd do it for you, but I only just did my car for the first time yesterday. Everything's still fresh in my mind although I'm hardly a pro.
Send me a PM if you want some help anyways.

any of my mates would do it for nothing and id prob buy them a carton just to say thnx,
my local workshop gonna put my springs in for me for a carton of beer ... lol whats the world coming to when a mate charges u buy an hourly rate :S
i know wat u mean.
I've put in my system, my bros, and 2 of my friends and i didnt charge em anything and they bought me a cartoon or so for my work, its great.
It's embarassing knowing that i put the sound systems in, and mines the worst, its only a headunit.

myself and one other mate recently lent around $1000 cos my other mate pranged his car... we are also gonna help him move the motor over to his new car as well... KC laser with 1.8 DOHC goodness :P
i dont really want anything in return... just my money back whenever he can afford to pay us back.

Your lucky, maroochy car sound would charge $140 for the headunit alone, then $75 for each pair of speakers, and then about $250 for the amp and about $100-$150 for the re-wiring. Oh, but they will install the sub for free, its just an easy couple of mins.
So in total, it would cost you upto $690 - but they might do you a deal and only charge you $650.
Unless of coarse your a 20y/o chick with big boobs, then they will do it all for $150.

If possible, could you please take photos of the final install?
I'd like to compare what I've done to what some more experience peeps do. Particularly the engine bay and boot. :)

Sheesh - i do so many cashies like this one weekends i have forgotten how many I have done now!!
I normally charge $50 for a H/U and $25 per pair of speakers, and I am yet to have any issues with any of my installs. The only one that died was a faulty (read cheap and nasty) head unit.
But for mates I normally do it for free!!
I've done dozens of installs like this one on mates cars, even mate's mates cars, and usually the topic of money doesn't even get mentioned. Most of the time they volenteer to give me money, and maccas, or like most of u mentioned - refreshments and a lap dance. lol
But yeah, if you were in Briz, I'd also do it. I enjoy working on cars (not like Phillbert), and all the more satisfying when you're done and everything works

Its not that good a setup, bro:
Subwoofer tube with Amp - eBay $ 25 (BuyNow price was 149)
4 Channel 75w RMS AMP - eBay $ 40 (BuyNow was 199 Noname brand "Streamline")
Good 6 x 9 rear speaker from JL Audio (bought here for 130)
Still stock speakers in front because the eBay twat didnt send it yet - JLs comming soon (hopefully)
The sound is enough for me - even a CarAudio specialist like Tim said the sound was OK, considering what I paid.
Pictures will follow tomorrow - still got to clean out the car.
Have a good night, y'all!
it has to be better than mine
1 front right 4" stock speaker and pioneer head unit
(i had 2 4" speakers but my mum blew the other one up:redface: )

Yeh install's nothing pretty didnt get enough time to neaten up all the wiring unfortunately, but it's fairly neat.
With the few tools we had, we managed to get it all up and running, for the price it doesn't sound too bad. The active sub gives some nice depth although it starts distorting with a bit of power. Enough for everyday listening though.
Dash fitted back in all nice n neat. all the panels are back on with little to no screws left over lol
We managed to rewire the fronts and rears. heatshrinked most of our connections.
JL 6x9's in the boot lid.
Gerard ran the cable for the amp installed fuses etc Fuse right next to the battery for safety.
Unfortunately our lack of supplies meant our screws werent long enough to get through the back seat to mount the amp, we got a couple through though, will take 2 minutes to fix up with 18mm or 20 mm screws. Amps held on for now. A drill would have come in handy as well, meh... next time.
Only downfall the amp was stuffed up (Although not that surprising) So the rear channels had to be run in mono bridged at 8 ohm. But in all honesty, if I were running rears I would have them in mono too to stop imaging cues from the back. So no loss there
Some other things to fix up when you get some time:
Extend the wires to the active sub, so you have a bit more room to move.
Mount the sub down properly (especially considering it has an inbuilt amp and power wires rattling around)
Cover up the positive power wires at the amp and sub with something Dob of hot melt glue etc. Just to stop anything shorting out against there.
Move your rcas around a bit to get rid of that whine we had. Try moving them away from the power wires.
That should do it.
The worlds cheapest amp / sub / dvd / speaker / screen combo
Had a good day mate despite the heat. Big thanks to your better half for the donuts
See you at the next cruise.
Peace
Tim
