Hi,

Ok, so i just got a 1989 TP Magna Wagon Given to me by my dad. Its really good, looks wise but it wont run. When dad tested it, it went fine, Now that i have it here at home, it wont go :cry: , it sounds like it is about to go, but it just wont fire. I need some ideas of what the problem could be!! please :D ................ Everything else in the car works e.g, horn, headlights, radio....etc. Any info about these cars would be really useful as i want to customize as much as possible!!

Check:

1...petrol in tank
2...all fuses are ok
3...all leads are on and secure
4...spark at plugs
5...fuel is getting to the engine

I am a SHE not a HE thankyou very much and yes there is petrol in the tank!! :doubt: It may be my first car, but i am not dumb! :D

I wasnt giving ya a hard time doodlet, you'd be surprised how many men forget to check the petrol when their car stops. :D

Check the other stuff and see how you go, if it ran before I assume the timing is ok, so as long as you have spark, fuel and compression it should go. :D

You didnt do any jump starting or playing with the battery at all did ya. :)

Oh yeah I forgot, welcome to the site, ignore the smart alecs (sometimes including me lol ). Good to see another 1st gen on the site especially owned by the fairer sex. A few of us have manuals and scanners so if you ever need any pages or info, just ask. :D :D

When dad was playing with it when he got it home, they just tried starting it and checked all the general stuff and by then the battery was pretty well flat, cause i had the doors open all day when i was putting in seat covers, so the battery is just on the battery charger at the moment.

Mite just have been a low charge in the battery, mine wont start unless the battery is fully charged.

I was a bit worried that you mite have killed the computer with a bad jump start. :)

the same thing happened to me have a look at this thread might help out a bit. have a good read start to finish might find somthing in there no one has metioned and it will tell ya what i did to fix it. good luck and welcome to amc hope u enjoy ur stay. mainly all i did was let it sit for a week then took out the battery so the ecu can reset and pressed every electrical plug in the engine bay together and pressto it worked i really didnt know what i did but it woked. u see what i did to fix it had alredy been tried a week before :nuts: go figure

Ok, so i tried everything that people said, its all fine, all fuses and leads are ok, it winds over but just wont fire!! which makes it really annoying because it sounds like it is about to go but doesnt. So they poured some petrol down this thing (not sure what) under the bonnet and tried to start it, but the petrol just like spat back up. and they were saying something about no spark?? i wasnt really listening. Can anyone help??

well if ur coil has overheated and isnt working u can get one at any supercheap auto,auto barn,auto one stores and if the distributor has given up the ghost ull need to phone around the wreckers to find another, just make sure it's of the same type and model as urs so u dont have any dramas.Also just wondering if its Getting fuel eg.blocked injectors. just take out a spark plug and turn the engine over and ull see if the engines getting fuel by its smell and ull see a fine mist sprayed inside (When u took out the spark plug).

Ok so where is this spark plug u speak of??? lol, im a bit car illiterate. LOL but hey im learning!!

so how do i know if it is the coil and/or the distibuter?? cause i dont want to go and buy them if i dont need them. :) lol

Is there anyway i can tell if they are working properly or not?

well for the coil ud prob use a circut tseter or multimeter to see if it's getting energy from the dizzy then ud test to see if the coils giving out spark . your dad might be able to help ya with that. id also grab a manual cos there life savers,if my scanner was working id scan all the info for ya. but im sure that someone else here might be able to help with that.good luck
oh yea im not i mechanic or anything just my 2 cents but theres alot of people here who know more than me just have to wait a little bit for more replys. :D

is your car fuel injected or natrually aspirated?
well ive known a few people who had problems with the carbies in there magnas ur problem might be with that too.have u tried the search button it might turn up somthing.

Ok, so i checked out some of the things in the other forums, not very helpful. So from what i can find out it is something to do with the fuel and the spark. Ok so, when they poured fuel into the thingy and tried to start it it spat back up. what does that mean?? and they said it had no spark?? what does that mean? So i just want someone to tell me what i can do to possibly find out what is wrong with this car!!! it is really starting to annoy me........................

at the top of this page u will come across the word seach click on it and type in coil,distributor,carbie ,problems starting etc etc.
