Do high flow cats increase power much?

whats a ballpark figure for one and do they change the note of the exhaust much?

thanks

Easiest and best thing to do would get some 2.25 or 2.5 pipe. get a junkyard cat. Cut the flanges off the cat and weld to the pipe. Now you got a 'test pipe' easy to swap in for any inspections and better then any high flow cat.

They're quite an exhaust restriction so removing it will give you quite a bit of power, and as for sound, you'll get a lot louder/throaty...er.

And over here you cop a huge fine.

A high flow car will only give a gain if your cat is stuffed or you're forcing a whole lot of volume through the system. On a car that the majority of owners have here: no gain.

The environment thing is neither here nor there pal, a cow produces more methane in a year then a car does carbon monoxide, and methane is like 4x more destructive on the ozone layer, does that mean we should be shoving platinum honeycombs up a bovine's ass?

As for it being illegal, only if you get caught, just like the 101 other things you can get defected for over there. Thats why its an idea to keep your stock cat so you can swap it back in when it comes time for registration or inspections.

I better stop eating onions....

Methane is a greenhouse gas. It doesn't destroy the ozone layer, methane just traps in the heat. Now everybody go photo copy war and peace, we need more ozone....

I think cat's also cut back a lot of the other harmful poisonous gases produced my unleaded fuel and the additives they put in there.

I'd say the your health would come streets ahead of the environment.

and on topic...

Bugger all power gain, but like was said, you might as well do it while you do the rest of your exahaust. Cat's get covered in **** so a new one will be better for you, the environment and less restrictive.

And the problem with being caught is the 10k fine or whatever it is.

I heard those MetalCat's are good.. about $200, hi flow ones i have seen are about $150 or so (for magnaflow/lukey etc) also cats only last a few years so technically we should be getting them replaced every 10 (i think its 10 years) because they just don't work after that.
