Yet again the horn has **** its self on the TL. So i rang Mitsy and when i told the guy what happend he yelled out to a guy in the background "Book another Horn job". So he explained to me how theyre having roughly 3 / 4 a week.
Hmmm rather annoying i reckon.

I'd say the contact between the wheel and the horn mechanism is probably wearing out too quickly if its a common problem.

Well the first time as well. He actually showed me another 4 TLs at that same time that were getting horns done.

Had the horn fixed twice on my KJ2 AWD. After the second time Mitsubishi tried to tell me that i had pranged my car and crushed a wiring loom which therefor isnt under warranty and that i had to take it to an autoelec.
I quickly told him that my car has never had a single scratch on it since new and if they dont fix it then i will go to consumer affairs. They just didnt want to spend the time tracing back the problem as it wasnt the actual horn itself that was playing up.
After 2 days of them having it, they traced the problem back to the fuse box under the hood where the wires going to the horn relay had poped out of their mounting in the fuse box and had pushed down therefor not getting contact with the relay.
Has been fine ever since.

Nah the actual horn died completely. Dont even make a single tiny noise. I tested it and i get volts at the horn when i press it, but no sound comes out. Oh well...

My TL VRX horn is embarrassing to use, it makes a sort of squawk, a bit like a pubescent teenager's breaking voice. I just assumed that they hadn't adjusted the tuning screw on it, but then again, I haven't had a good look for it yet.

If you have the horn replaced under warranty, your just going to get the same crap croaky horn as before. I went to a wreckers and got a horn from a 97-02 camry instead. Direct fit with same wiring. 5 minutes and she's a beeping. Sounds way better than the maggie one. But I will probably replace it with a AU falcon one soon.

Yeah a falcon one or one out of a VZ commodore onwards. Commy's always have had the crappiest horns as we know but the new VZ's have a great horn. Out of the statesmans. Similar to a BMW horn. Nice and loud with a great note.
apart from beeping at mates.....i dont think i've ever needed to use the horn.........whats wrong with you people wearing out your horns.

I've got a 3-way elcheapo set of airhorns that cost me about $30 from autobarn or somewhere.
They go alright, but 3 horns running of that compressor is a asking a bit much of it. The twins use the same output compressor as the 3-ways, so less outputs = higher pressure air = louder. I'm seriously considering buying bigger compressor to run mine.
There is a nice threaded bolt hole where I mounted my compressor, see pic. The mount was just a piece of angle gal iron used on the corner edges of palletts. I just bent it to a near 180 degree bend, drilled 2 holes to mount to the body, three holes across the top edge to bolt the horns onto.
The wiring is a total b*tch to do, I ran directly off the battery with a 20A relay, the stock wiring does not have enough current flow to power the compressor. The wiring and horn are underneath the battery on a 3rd gen (at least is was in my TF). Difficult to get a relay in there, but got it eventually.

Thats the pic, taken my Mysti on the NSW Blue Mountains Cruise last year. This was at the Boiler park where Ego did this massiv lurid drift with handbrake and did some damage to his rear driver's tyre - I still laugh about that.
Sorry that the car was not clean, I live in a dusty country area west of the Blue mountains... was pretty dry last year.
If you want a better pic, can take one later today

Hey there!
I am one of the MANY with stuffed horns (steady.....) and have a two-fold problem.
Firstly, obviously, the horn's dead. Not having access to a pit or a hydraulic jack to get under there, would you believe I'm actually having trouble FINDING the damn horn. My brother-in-law is a truck mechanic and we spent twenty minutes on Christmas day trying to find the thing!
I've owned her (a 2000 Exec TH 3.0) for nearly a year and it's the first time I've HAD to find it and now I can't.
If you guys could help me out (after you've finished laughing and calling me an idiot; don't worry I deserve it!),
I'd greatly appreciate it.
T
ps. You reckon the Camry and Astra horns fit as they were and didn't need adjusting??

Drivers side behind the washer bottle. Well... on a TL anyways, im unsure of the other models.

Mine too. I am looking at putting a Falcon horn on it, because it has bite when you hit it. Does anybody know if it is possible to put a Falcon horn on a Magna?

The falcon horn will *WORK*, just like any other horn once you wire it in.
Your problem may be in *FITTING* it, I don't think it would fit in the factory location.
That said, with enough money, anything is possible.

I too am another unsatisfied stock horn user,
The original horn on my 98 TH sounds like it might be more suited to a excel (shame) ...
So I asked my old man about it and after rumaging through his garage for a while he cam up with the horn that he installed on all of his rides when he was a ' young hoon ' (as he put it).
The horn was apparently from some old 1920's truck of some kind....
I though it would be a simple job - uh-uh. The whole front bumper and left headlight had to come off, it took ages.
After about half an hour of stuffing around with either no sound or only sound, we worked out that it needed a crossed earth (something about old skool horns - possibly it is only meant for 6 or 9 volts). And it was a mission to redesign the bracket and squeeze this huge horn into the tiny cavity infront of the plastic wheel arch.
Now I have a completely unique horn that sounds like it is about to implode  , but it still sounds better than the original!

i got a falcon horn from the wreckers for next to nothing.....took the factory one from behind the washer bottle, and put them both together at the front of the car. WHOA it kicks A$$ now!!!. i just bolted the two horn brackets( i connected the earth of the ford horn to the bracket of the mits horn) to the lower radiator support panel. i only had to take off the grille......p.o.p :)

Putting things in funny places is one thing but how's this?
Just got back from my local dealer where I picked up my new horn unit. Asked the parts guy if one of the service guys could just help me out and point out where the damn horn is on a Magna.
He sends some young guy out who takes a good look around and says "Well, that [pointing to the empty bracket behind the washer bottle] is where it SHOULD be"!!
Beyond that, he has no idea and ends on "Don't know what to tell ya buddy, that's where they usually are".
Thing is, the area looks absolutely pristine, so I don't reckon there's ever been anything bolted there!
Anybody got any ideas????

I found this to be the biggest time waster! I have a TJ2 wagon. After 2 weeks of the pissy little quack, which mitsubishi tried to pass off as a horn, I changed to a set of "supacheap" branded twin air horns from...... guess where! Set them up behind the front bumper, facing into eachother (which creates a great harmonic disruption, ehancing the manufacturers dischord).
I was completely stoked with the result....... for the first three toots, then it died!
After trying everything and checking the fuses that related to the horn (there was no power coming to the horn), I gave up.
Luckily, or otherwise, was booked in for some warranty work the next day. Mitsubishi advised that even though the problem wasn't the horn itself, but a power problem (proven, by running hot wires to the compressor, resulting in a 130 kg man (me) jumping five feet in the air), it would not be covered under warranty, because of the "modification".
They found the problem. a 10 amp fuse under the bonnet, which had been labeled as "lights" had blown. funny thing is, I couldn't find the fault, because MItsubishi had labeled the fuse incorrectly. All lights were working! they charged me for fixing it (with another 10 amp fuse, replaced, by nessecity that same day, with a 15 amp which seems happy!), which I would've easily done, except for their original mistake!!!!
Any way.... horn now works and people listen when it's sounded!
I highly reccomend the $30 twin air horn set! (twins over tripples, because they use the same compressor. most people would immagine that tripples would produce more Db, but if you run the same air pressure between two trumpets as you do, three trumpets, the twins are always going to produce a louder sound).
TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, I'VE SAID MY THING.... YOU CAN DISAGREE IF YOU LIKE, FEEL FREE TO BE WRONG!!

Thanks xman.
Having eventually found the dud horn and replaced it with a factory unit, couldn't get any power to go to the thing, hence not a peep.
Had already checked all of the fuses but based on your experience, will check all "lights" fuses now.
Mitsubishi sure are a wacky lot.......
