Hello guys i ditched the nissan gt-r double din HU and bought myself a nice sony HU with remote. Ok! Now i've chopped the wiring off the original head unit plug so i can wire it up to the sony one but i don't know which wire goes to which
If theres anyone out there that can guide me on which wire to connect to which i would be very thankful!
Cheers :D

Cheers :D Need more info on year of car and model of new HU. But in general:
1. Get a little light bulb or speaker and find out which wire in the car is constant 12V
2. Put the key in ignition and switch to ACC and find out which wire in the car is ACC
3. With the key in On position, turn the headlight on to park light mode and find which wire in
the car is for lighting up the HU.
3. Connect the constant 12V of the car to the constant 12V of the HU and the ACC of the car
to the ACC of the HU and connect the light wire from the car to the HU.
4. Now get a AA battery and find out which of the remaining wires in the car is for which
speakers and then connect them to the HU.
5. The remaining one should be for the electric aerial (normally pink or light blue).
Edit:
There should be a thick black cable for the antenna feed.
Edit again:
There shoulb be a black wire that is ground. Also, for the speakers, there should be pairs of
wires, one with a stripe down the side of it. The one with the stripe is the +ve.

Mate - just look at the exact name of the HU - then search for that name + manual in Google. I am sure you will find a PDF file in the web.
haha, did u take a look at all the wires before u disconnected it all? Maybe it was labelled on the previous headunit?
other than that, multimeter, 9v battery, heatshrink and soldering iron. Have fun.

Only thing is my dashboard lights are out. BUT! They come on when i touch the ACC wire with the main 12V one
Far out
So now i don't know what to do  I just want them to come on when i turn the headlights on like back to normal...

your previous h\u would have had a dimmer control that is automated when u turn the lights on. find that cable and wire it back the way it should be together with the dash lights cable

Hehe thanks for your speedy replies!
Hmmm its weird though coz if i touch the wires even without the keys in there the dashboard and console lights up? You think it would work if i connect that dimmer cable again and have the ACC wire hooked up to the 12V wires it'll work?
Right now, im waiting for NRMA to come i left the radio and lights all on for a while testing and stuff :doubt:

u hooked the dash light up to the wrong cable, hook it up to another one or if u carnt find it in that case u need to hook the dash light up to the light switch or head lamps themselves

You blew a fuse.... go and check all your fuses, one of them is blown. Then come back and say its all working again! lol

Hehe ok fuse has been replaced and it works now! Still got the prob if i connect the green-white ACC wire to the 12v constants, the dash lights come on and wont turn off. So i disconnected the green-white wire and taped it up so it doesn't blow another fuse. Cd player works good and car is fine. But now i got no dashlights or console illumination :doubt:
I'm not sure what to connect to bring the dashboard back to normal and turn on only when i turn the headlights on

the yellow and black wire with the round metal strap on the end is your earth or neutral. very important wire.

it should go on the bottom screw on the left where the headunit is screwed into, put it under the screw and screw it in, this is how it is on my KR. you should also have an earth/neutral for the headunit you have now, i attached it under the orginal one as described above.

I just installed my new JVC Headunit yesterday with the help of your instructions. I didn't know what the hell the existing wires were, and where they went, because they ran through plugs, insulation etc. But I followed your instructions, and learnt how to use a multimeter in the process :bowrofl: Now everything is working fine, cheers for that.

Ohhhhhh what does it do? I'll put it in for sure
Yeah there is a similar looking plug thing comming off the new HU what do i do with it? Do i put the exisiting *earth/neutral* wire back too? What and where do i put the other one from the HU to?
Thanks!!

i had the same problem with my head desk. Its the earth wire not earthing probably. i had to wire it to the body of the car. and that stopped all the problem with dash lights and driving light.
Give it ago ann tells how you went.
Many thanks

Thanks for your help Nathan :)
Gave it a shot wasn't sure whether to cut the little circular ending on the earth wire but i didnt and connected the wire that makes the dash go on, back to the head unit wires and the dash came on. Then i tried the earth wire on the body of the car but the dash board light didn't go off.
Hmmm im not that sure on how to go about it but thanks heaps. I hope i can get this working soon
Hmm anyone got any step by stem instructions. Coz im a bit confused. Maccy D said he put the old earth wire back to the screw where it originally was and also put the new earth wire from the HU in the same screw. But Nathan said he put the signle earrth wire on the body of the car. Hmm im not too sure what to do! Apologies for my n00bness

memory wire from h\u connects to the permanent positive wire from the battery.--- this wire isnt switched its always on.
acc or ignition wire from head unit goes to acc or ignition wire from car----lol
ground wire from h\u connects onto that cirular cable and then that cirular cable gets screwed onto a metal piece of your car.----ground wires.
speakers go to the speakers---lol
illumination from h\u connects to the dash light wire.
and thats all realy i installed heaps a sterios in my past. just ask me if u need ne more help

Ok guys i went to a small audio shop in South Strathfield and got my head unit reweired and checked for $40. Apparently I blew 4 fuses while trying to install it myself
Everything works now including the dash lights and tail lights etc. and I also got a nice pair of sony 6x9's installed in the back too! They sound wayyyyy better than stock and i also have the stock front 4" used aswell but i tweaked with the Fade option on the head unit so that 60% of the sound comes from the back speakers and 40% from the front.
I think i need an amp for more power from these speakers but they'll do fine for now hehe
Thanks for your help guys :D
I'm lucky I didn't blow up my head unit

lol! $40 dont ya hate it whe you put so much effort in doing it yourself and end up just getting frustrated and/or breaking things, where for the price of a carton of beer and you dont have to think twice :D

After reading all the posts, I've come to the conclusion that I should let a pro do it. Aplogies to the original poster of this topic. I have the exact same HU and speakers and I was going to wire them up but now, I'll have it done by some one else.
ah well, we all have to start sometime/somewhere even if it means blowing 4 fuses and gonig over budget :P
I was lucky not to have destroyed anything when i first started fooling around. Just take it slow and be careful :)
