Hey guys,
I may be looking into some new amps and some new splits in the future.
Does anyone know the RMS output of the BOSS 1200w max 4 channel amp?
Also the Avalanche AV800 4 channel amp has no RMS specs either, anyone know?
I'm thinking i might get a good monoblock for the MTX thunders, and a nice 4 channel for the splits.
Now which splits should i get?
Maybe looking at $2-300 per pair.
What would be a good amp to power the splits for around the $3-400 mark?

I would not touch the first 2 amps you spoke of.
AV800 is about 30-35WRMS per channel as per their box at 14.4V.
Old BA1000 was 17WRMS per channel 12V / 0.1%THD
I guess the 1200W one would be around 40-50WRMS @ 14.4V / 1% THD.
Power is ok from those amps but it is the S/N ratio, Channel separation, THD, Damping Factor etc that really let them down.
My Advice would be to get a good smallish 2 channel amp, something like an Audison SRx2 or Crossfire 402. Both are under $300. You dont really need the backs amped as you never sit in the back.
For the splits, prefered genres will determine what you buy. For softer genres like Jazz, classical etc look into Morel Pulse 6, Rainbow, Eton. Faster and basser music like R&B and Dance look into Boston S type, Hertz HSK 165's. For a good alrounder look into JL, PG, Crossfire etc. Make sure to deaden your doors and add diffusers to make those splits sound as good as they are. Most those spilts are under $300 or just over. Deadening and diffusers will cost around $150. Dynamat and G spot are good to look into.
Total is around $750. :D

Those amps are the ones i currently have,
I have the AV800 running pioneer 6" in the front and pioneer 6x9" in the back (the pioneers are 35 or 45w rms so that works out well then :).
I have the boss 1200w amp running in 2 channel mode, with each mtx thunder bridged over 2 channels (getting 600w max each, dunno about rms though, but didn't realise it was so low).
I listen to mostly dance music, some alternative/rock every now and then, so some good mid bass/treble speakers are a must. The subs i have pump so i dont need to worry about replacing those. I might just wait and see how much money i have left over with the new car :).
***EDIT***
Also i'm curious, is it possible for something, eg. a mulitmeter to detect how many w are actually coming out of a set of speaker terminals?

Leigh even with the rms values of these amps they would be pointless as i wouldnt trust them anyway.
When you get a new car I want you to sell every single piece of audio equipment you have, and start again.
Guys when buying car audio gear, dont look at the specs. They are all misleading and all the budget companies (boss, audioline, avalanche) grossly overestimate their figures, while many quality companies underestimate their figures.
I reckon with all the money you have spent you could have a kickass system.
Keep it basic.
2 way splits up front.
Rears off the headunit
Sub
4 channel amp to power it.
Or amp for splits and mono for sub.
If you buy one piece at at time you can eventually work up an awesome system.

Hey 3 speaker set ups ( splits and sub ) are the easiest way and add another 2 for rear fill if you have people in the back all the time.
I would sell the lot as well. What head unit runs the system?
The only thing I would keep would be one set of the pioneer co-axials you have for rear fill, if the rear shelf of your new car has 6x9's use them, if the rear shelf has 6inch use them. :D

I'm replacing the pioneer speakers eventually, they were just a short term thing anyway that ended up sounding ok.
I'm keeping the subs and box as they sound pretty awesome. Basically will just be looking at a nice 4 channel amp, monoblock and some good sets of splits :). But not sure yet. See how bored i get :P.

I'd say put a set of Hertz HSK-165s up front, and have a Jaycar amplifier powering them.
As tim said, rears running off the deck and have the sub running off a monoblock.
or if you want, you could do what I did and have one big ass 5 channel amplifier powering my entire system. Splits, 6x9s, and 1 12" 500w RMS sub.
