Ohk im buying a 8inch screen for my car.

so it has a diagonal measurment of 8 inches or 203mm

it has an aspect ratio of 4:3

what are dimentions of the screen ?

i duno lol. duz it hav plastic on da outside of it?????.
if not cut out a shape with a diagonal of 8inches and a ratio of 4:3 so if one side was 6inches da other side would be 4.5inches etc

4.57" length
3.42" width

Method:
8 / 7 (4 parts by 3)
x 4 for length, x 3 for width

(I THINK)

yes it has a case but im talking about just the screen.

im not a big fan of the trial and error method.

surely there is a formula ???

Trig will do it. But im pretty sure my method is pretty damn accurate, but then again I got an average of 3% on all my Math Methods tests in 2004.

Basic trig and ratios... Although im a little rusty.

nah im afraid your wrong

that would give me a diagonal of roughly 6 inches.

According to my calculations it is exactly 1624mm x 1218mm

20.3^2 = 16.24^2 + 12.18^2

20.3^2 = 412.09

263.7376 + 148.3524 = 412.09

4/3 = 1.333 and 16.24 / 12.18 = 1.33

Therefore it's 162.4mm x 121.8mm :D

Who said ALL Commodore driver's were bogans? :naughty:

ooh a 1.6m x 1.2m screen wouldnt fit in my car mate.

so i will prosume u mean 162.4mm x 121.8mm

that would give me a diagonal measurment of .......... 8 inches or 203mm

good work mate.

i didnt understand one bit of your formula

but thats just me. dont try and explain it.

cheers big ears.

howd u figure it.

Yep 162.4mm x 121.8mm is right

If you break up the TV screen into 2 right angle triangles, you can use the hyp. to determine the length and width. the hyp squared = the length squared by the width squared.

well arnt u a smart little cookie. seriously though. cheers.

now how wide and tall is a DIN ???

By Pythagoras theorem a rectangle of aspect raito 4y length and 3y height has a diagonal of 5y.

So 5y=8 inches, y=8/5inches

So the width is 4 * 8/5 inches = 6.4 inches = 16.26 cm
and height is 3 * 8/5 inches = 4.8 inches = 12.19 cm

So yeah there you go.

another smart one. i used to know all that stuff. but havnt used it since school so its not really in an accessible area of my brain.

ahh cant u do it for me. hehe jks

its 50mm by 180mm if anyone else cares.
so a double would be 100mm high by 180mm wide ( 4inch x 7 )

lazy ass.

by my quick calculations.

the din slot will be slightly wider but slightly shorter.

wheres my saw.......

it will be 2cm top to bottom to tall, and 2cm left to right to short.

if i got a 16 x 9 screen would it be a better fit ???

What the hell are you trying to do sorry? Fit an 8" screen into a Single DIN slot? :P

eek
12-01-2006, 06:56 PM
8 inch viewable area? So the actual screen would be a bit bigger than that?

yeah, 162.4 x 121.8

How could u not know how to do that? Its like, primary school stuff?!! lol

Uhm, it's doable, you need to modify the area a bit though. There was someone on here who did it with a 7" screen I think, anyone remember the thread link/or who did it so a search can be done on it?

Mr Bishi
12-01-2006, 07:06 PM
ohk by my calculations a 7inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16 x 9

will have the dimensions

8.7cm high and 15.5cm wide anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong.

the 2DIN is 10cm High and 18 Wide

so the screen will be 1.3cm short | and 2.5cm short __

i can deal with that.

im thinking of that for my car as well....jsut wondering how i would mount it :S...and also where do the things connect in it cos if they are top or bottom your in troubles!

Mr Bishi
12-01-2006, 07:11 PM
well the actual screen will be bigger than that. thats why u have to take it outta its case.

and hard wire it all up.
