hey guys, i dunno if i should put this in here but yeah i just wanted to vent my anger, my gf just bought herself a mazda 626 94 model realy nice car, got the racq thingy dun and it was all good, just told us the rotors were 20% left and ummm it needed a service, and we were like sweet should cost under $1000 to fix up, well her dad took it to his mechanic and the mech couldnt tell him how much it will cost so her dad told him to go ahead with it then. My gf got a call yesterday sayin that it will cost over $1200 and in tearn they also put on new pads without her aproval and the pads on teh car were only 3 weeks old so they would have been fine with the new rotors and in that there was $300 labor, thats ridiculous, and oh this is hte best part, they never did the service, isnt that ridiculous so her dad picked it up and yeah im soooo furious. I want to hit the guy out, i worked out that he charges her $200 per rotor inc brake pad and then 150 for a service they never did or did a half ass job on, then charged her 300 for labor. thats wropng, apsolute robery especialy when i know you can get full front brake kits for no more than $150 incl pads and 2 rotors. just disgusting. grrrrrrrrr, thanks i just needed to vent. comment if you like.
thanks

Thats why you pay by Credit Card, then hop on the phone when you get home and cancel the transaction. But seriously - that's damn fncking DISGUSTING.

I'm a big fan of FIRE :shifty: Did I say that or just think it??

should prob put this in genrall or members lounge but thats wrong wat they did. should have shoped round a bit. but take it back to them and tell them to do a full sevice coz u paid them and they didnt do shut all. **** i hate sum mechanics. thats why its best to learn how to do these things urself and save on gettin ur money wasted.

Um.. you will find that whenever replacing discs you should always replace the pads, or you will just wreck the new discs. When you drop a vehicle off you typically sign a release document authorising them to proceed with "deemed necessary" work.

There's only a contract on the work u asked them to do and it is all refundable unless it is your fault (you changed your mind, didnt expect that cost, etc..) but if he did a crap job, what an arsehole. I took my car to a mechanic today and told him there was something wrong with like the distributor and i wanted a service. When i came to pick it up i was hoping it was all fixed, but apparently the mechanic never told the others and boss, which worked on the cars. this really didnt help me because thats why i brought my car in early. O well. He said he would take care of it tomoro and i'd get my car back by 2:00pm and he offered another car to me to use in the meantime, and this one has more power, but i turned it down as i dont need my car tomoro.

But still a lack of communication sucks, but it sounds like u got ****ed over.
Sorry for the long post.

if they don't inform you of extra work your not obliged to pay for it. they are allowed to remove any parts though.

Well silly you then. Should the need ever arise, how do you prove you even gave your car to them, without some form of documentation?

as far as i can rember the last 626 i worked on the rotor dont just slide off the hub you need to take the whole hub off the car and press out the bearings then you can un bolt the front disc rotors its a big job that price sounds about right lots of swearing and spaners flying for that type of job

my bro's 626 is invincible!! He has fed it on nearly anything, treated like **** almost overheated it a couple of times and came home 3 times with no oil. I wish he learnt to look after his car, but HOLY ****!! It just lives on and on...

Hey hate to jump on the side of the mechanic here but ill have to agree with teK here when you install new rotors it is common practice to put on new pads too. At least he wasnt like a certain mechanic who fixed my car and replaced the fuel pump and not the filter (which was clogged up tight and was the cause of the pressure problem not the pump :doubt: ). But if your not happy with they're service take it back and state why your not happy.

Well, the reciept with the description of work done to the car, but ive never had to sign a disclaimer as such authorizing them to work on my car to begin with.

Have you priced how much brake discs are for that car? mazda's are very expensive cars, they arnt like commodores. mazdas are put together properly and designed. not just thrown together. thats why their parts are expensive.

.$300 labour
.$160 brake pads (bendex f&r ~$80/pr) (1hr)
.$200 each front brake disc (1hr)
.$170 each rear brake disc (1hr)

$1200 total - and 3hrs labour

$300 labour would be about 5-6hours. Are you sure that they didnt charge $150 labour and do a service for $150....

Give repco a call later today and just to get a rough idea.

Ive had to do this at every place my car has every gone to, only on the first visit though, they keep it on file.

hey yeah i checked around and phoned my mechanic mate up and got a pice off him and he works down at my local goodyear centre, and yeah he said that he could have done the rotors for 120 for the front each (other charged me 170 each) and the reads he said he could do for 50 each (other did them for 80 each) and he said about 1 hr labor. And he could have done the service inc flushing all fluids for about $120 and about another 1hr labor or in all it would have only costed me a fraction of the price and the pads he could do for $80 a set for bendix advanced ones and that wasnt with mates rates, thats what he would charge anyone so total if i went to good year would have been about $740 all up and my gurl got charged double that and they didnt even change the oil or the spark plugs since i had to do them today and found the car had about 1l too much oil in her and the plugs started to miss today after i carby cleaned her car out. soo for what i payed i got jack all. sory mate but i did get ripped.Oh yeah and i checked the receipt and it was 300 for labor and 180 for their version of a service and flush.
