Hi guys,

I'm currently having a few problems with my 93 Verada. Firstly, it has a cracked head. Secondly, it has some majored electrical problem....stalls when warm and battery light comes on and lights dim. Thirdly, it misfires and shakes when under load (this was previously fixed but replacing the dist cap and plug leads...however the problem is happening again. Do you think it would be worth getting the head fixed? It's gonna cost me about $1500. Im sure everybody here has allot of experience with this car. Does it sound like I have some typical problems with this car?

I don't think any car has "typical" problems when it's 12 years old.
The head repair would be approx half the value of the car, all depends if you plan to keep it, what the engine/tranny/suspension/duco etc are like.

If ya like the car and plan to keep it, get it fixed, if not and you can afford it, trade it in.

Remember it's now going into it's 13th year.

A cracked head is never a good thing. Getting it fixed would be the best start, but yeah expensive. My 95 KS has had top end rebuilt, $1440 job, and it runs great now.

The electrical problem sounds like the alternator. Could be as simple as the regulator which isnt expensive to fix. If the battery/alternator light comes on intermittantly then its probably the regulator.
Thirdly, try replacing spark plugs, if the leads were done not too long ago as well as dissy, the rebuild is probably the way to cure the shuddering.

Good luck with it anyway mate.

Thanks for the quick reply, I forgot to mention that there is a carbon bulid up on the leads, so they must be sparking off each other?? what causes this?

Yeah Shamous69 i think the alternator might be the problem there...I will try to explian again, Once the car gets warm, the car will stall when given no gas...eg. if i stop at the lights i have to put it in neutral an keep the revs up then jam it into drive to avoid stalling....and no i'm not drving it like this anymore!!

In your honest opionions do you think it is worth fixing???? I've heard so many bad reports about this model. If I knew that the repairs would fix all the problems I would really consider keeping it, the interior is imaculate!

Otherwise, if all else fails I will just get some Chemi-Weld and trade it in.....
