HI,

Just joined today and was hoping for some info.

I bought a 1999 TH model Magna Solara in Bundaberg the day before New Years eve 2005.

I read on the internet that these were produced in limited numbers. I can't find out any more info.

Can somebody help with info such as "How does the Solara differ from other models', "Were they produced in limited numbers" and does any one else on the forum have one"??

Also it has "a V6 3.5 litre engine, twin exhausts, 15" factory Mags, A 10 CD stacker in the boot, ABS brakes, Dual paint work (Blue over Silver) plus spoiler, trip computer and cruise control, are all of these standard features?

BTW, What a Magic ride it is

twin exhaust as in 2 outputs on the muffler?
Or 2 mufflers either side of the car?
I think it was the TH solaras that had the silver trim down along the bottom of the car?
Most of those features are standard, except maybe the spoiler.

Solara's came in to fit the gap between the Executive's and the Altera's. Executives would have most those things, but most likely wouldn't come with the mags (just hub caps), the two tone paint is a special thing on Solara's, the dual exhaust tips out of the single muffler was the same on all the models between Exec and Altera. As far as the trip computer and cruise control, I'm pretty sure the trip computer was standard across all TH's, as for cruise, not entirely sure. The 10 stacker CD changer I believe was an option on any Magna. Next level up, Altera, gets electric windows. Yours would have manual right?

As for rareness, I can only go on how much I see them, and TH Solara's, barely seen any. They became a bit more common in the TJ I reckon.

TH's had either 3 or 3.5 litre engines. 3 litre would probably have only been with the Executives.

I bought my TJ series 2 Solara Advance about 6 months ago, black with silver, only seen 2 others like it around Brisbane in that period... I looked at getting a TH, but the TJ II had loads more extra's... Not a bad car...

Black and Silver was the very best colour combo - second best is what I have - the Sapphire and Silver - at least that's what I think.

The Solaras AFAIK were a batch model made twice a year - one batch of about 1500 made in May and another of 1500 in September. You could buy them anytime but stock came from those two batches. The reason that TH's seem rare is that it was a short lived model variant - maybe only two batches - wheras the TJ had six batches at least.

All I know is I wasn't a big fan of the two-tone paintwork on the earlier solaras. Only liked the smaller amount of silver on the later black/silver ones.

Either way, it's got four wheels, four doors, an engine and a magna badge. Good enough ticks for me :D

From memory, when I worked at MMAL, The solara's were made out of excess stock that had been sitting on the oval at Tonsley for too long (IE- hadn't sold yet) They took them into a shed in the yard, ripped the bars off, painted the bits silver, re badged them, and VIOLA! A solara.

I know this as a guy from my section worked through the holidays doing exactly that :)

Cheers,

Steve

Interesting 'theory', except that for the Tj's at least they'd also have to change the whole interior (different rear seat, unique to the Solaras cloth types and colours), the Data Plate (Option Code AD8 - Solara Marketing Pack), and re-arrange things like electric windows, cruise control and stereos compared to the Executives or Advances that they were altering. As well as paint, badging, wheels and window tint...
