if your going ported i hope your willing to give up a bit of boot space, hell there huge subs!

They only need a tiny sealed box to work very nicely...
Porting an idmax would be sacrilege

Hey guys need some advice
1) what size cabling, do i need a cap???? 0G or 2G or 4G i was told by some ppl 4G would be more then enough
2) still unsure what sub to get leaning a bit for the Alpine Type-X atm, but still not sure
i would love to get some advice on what to get in terms of cabling as i have been given different opinions on wiring etc.
For subs im after something that will go loud but still have a fair bit of bass.

you got 1 amp yes?
4ga will be plenty.
no need for a capacitor....at all......
oh and pleaseeeeee TF_ADVAN can you change your avatar? ITS SO BLURRRRYYY

LOL ill change the av soon.
are u sure 4g will be enough. I looked on this site that i found on CAA http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm and i did some calculations on the different cables and sizes and for what the amp makes it needs 2G.
hmmmmm need help, any idea tim what u reckon.

What gauge wire is dependent on current draw. Easiest way to check is to add up all your fuses at your amps that the wire will be powering
Wire Gauge - Fuse Size
2/0 gauge - 430 amps
0 gauge - 345 amps
1 gauge - 265 amps
2 gauge - 215 amps
4 gauge - 135 amps
6 gauge - 80 amps
8 gauge - 55 amps
10 gauge - 30 amps
12 gauge - 20 amps
14 gauge - 15 amps
16 gauge - 7.5 amps
Peace

Vibe Space 12 in Vibe slot ported box :D Will kill any Alpine. Just listened to most of the high end subs you listed. :D
hmmm....nice looking....congrats on the purchase
I reckon go 0 gauge. Saves u having to upgrade later if needed. DD3512 looks promising, but hey, if you wanna spend more, by all means go Treo, IDMAX, DD9912 etc...

eek, by all means i'd say go 0 gauge, but its bloody expensive........to expensive for me......unless eeky you can get me some nice and cheap? for a fellow amc'r? :)

And yes 0G is expensive, saw that JB had the Stinger 0G kit for nearly $300

Would ya be interested in some 1 guage?
How much would ya need?
I've still got about 70 meters of 1 guage wire left over if your interested in some for cheap....

Why does that not look like 1G sorry for questioning but for some reason it looks small.
Compared to the 0G that i saw today.

well i got the money but 300 is asking for a bit much, i may try to get a deal with sub or subs with 0G wiring a bit cheaper then seperate.

haha, yeah, kinda looks like 4 gauge, lol....
It's double nylon insulated aircraft wire with a 320 strand, 8mm pure copper core...
Aircraft wiring always looks smaller because the insulation is thinner. I'll go in to town today to compare it to the standard wire to check the gauge for sure. I'm sorry if I did get the gauge wrong though

Guys try BOC gases for welding 0 gauge if you're on a budget. $7 a metre or so :)
Not as flexible as car audio gear, but not a problem most of the time. People will say that there's more to cable than just how thick it is. Which is true to an extent, but it's thick enough to handle heaps of power safely. More so than 4 or 2 ga.
Peace
Tim

WAAAAAAAH!!!!
I checked it against some 4 AWG (that's the biggest I could find at Autobarn) and even though the insulation is twice as large, the actual wire inside is only a 1/3 larger... Must be an in-between size?
Goddamit!!! That means that this other stuff that I have is only about 2 AWG..
:headbange sigh.....
Reeeeeal cheap = $2/mtr
damn thats tempting....i dunno if i should run another power cable, so i'll have a 4ga and a 3.6ga.....or ditch it all and get 0ga lol. somebody will be impressed when they see 2 red fat-ish cables in the engine bay! :bowrofl:
