Side skirts on stock tj
Side stripes
Rear bumper full spray
Mirrors
Touch up bonnet/front bumper (2 scratches and a couple of 3mm diamater stone chips)
Touch up 1 scratch on side door

$980

Apparently without the side skirts/side strip it's $480

Anyway, anyone know a place to get this paint job done in Melb? The thing is I don't want some dodgy job done, but at the same time it shouldn't really cost that much more then $500 for the full job done. So it'd be good to know some decent price, decent job done places from peoples experience. Or is the quote I got above sorta normal?

Also, he advised me not to get the side skirts painted as if they get scratched it'll chip or something and show grey (the color underneath). Though, I'm not to sure .. Firstly honestly how often would you get scratched at that height on the side, it's below door level etc. Also, couldn't you just touch it up if that happened?

How is painting the stock side skirt area and different to say getting vrx side skirts and painting them and putting them on, is it that they are a different compound (harder plastic for the vrx side skirts id presume) Opinions please.

that seems about right man

was 500 to get my rear bar done (by insurance, so prolly dearer) and about 300 for a front bar (keeping in mind the ralliarts are trickier)

so that sounds fair

remember theres labour taking all the crap off the car too :D

I'd even say that's cheap for what you want done man, my mate got his kit two toned, and it cost $2500 (front bar, skirts, rear bar... not a lot of paint!). Each part you want painted is usually removed from the car, sanded, painted, sealed, and god knows what else.

$500... naaaaaaaaaaah!

The only part which would be removed is the rear bumper for a full respray.

The front/bonnet/front side door is just touched up.
As for the side skirts, they don't come off so they'd just be masked and painted.

Having said that, what do you think about the side skirt issue mentioned above.

EDIT: Oh, as another thought. What about touching it up myself.
Is it possible to get the paint color matched for me and they just sell me the paint. If so what sort of cost would this be. I don't mind to much sanding it back and painting myself.

From my experience buying the color from mits means as the cars a few years old the paint has differed from original due to fading etc. Then again my car is mawson white so I'm not to sure how much fading would effect white.

I guess I want my car looking clean, sick of the scratches. However, as ill be parking at a uni car park anyway it's bound to be rescratched a bit which is why I don't really want to pay like $1,000.

I was quoted $350 to get my rear bar done (removing and fitting inc). That quote sounds reasonably to me. At a guess I would say:

Rear bar $300
Mirrors $200
Scratches $100 (depends on how much work is needed)
Side Skirts $300
Side strips $150

Thats a bit over a grand so your doing alright.

The problem with painting it yourself is that they use a 2-pack paint, which needs to be baked. And for things like bumpers which are flexiable, additives are needed so the paint can flex with the bumper, otherwise it will just crack off. So its not as simple as getting some paint and slapping it in.

If you don't want to fork out big money, I'd just get a mawson white pressure pack and do the side skirts and stripes yourself, and worry about the other scratches. And if the paint is crappy it doesnt matter, because you won't feel 'smoothness' on the mottled plastic finish and the sideskirts will just mark up anyway. If your worried about fading, get your car detailed for $100 and if they're good, the paint will look as good as new

the skirts would have to come off, otherwise you'd get white overspray all over your interior. doesn't the top lip run in under the door?

Side strips $150

I understand everything your saying, but how can you justify charging 150$ for the side strips. Hmmm, I'm really unsure what to do. Never realised painting was _that_ expensive.

Also guys, what do you think about his advice to not paint the side skirts (i think he also meant the side strip)

Full respray in same colour is like $2,000 to $3,000 I believe.
In another color ranges from $3,000 to $5,000

Could also be more if you want a special metallic paint or something. I guess how cheap you get it will depend on who you know or how many jobs they got going at the time.

Your quote sounds about right. Maybe even cheap. I got quoted $400 just to colour code the side skirts alone.

We got one of our bars repainted by "The Touchup Guys", I think from memory, it was approximately $400 for the job. That included sanding back, repairing the bar a little bit as it was slightly damaged, and finishing up with a metallic paint (+ clear coat I imagine).

It turned out really well.

Find out what colour your car is and get the paint mixed to that.

i was quoted $380 to have my side skirts and front grille painted. -10% if i paid in cash and -$80 discount if i removed and replaced the said items. lol instead i grabbed some side skirts from the wreckers.
