View Full Version : stock rim size
ok earlier i posted up a thread which was to find out the biggest legal wheels i could get and i have come to the conclusion of wide 17's but i want to know if i can put the 17's on as my stock rim is 14", but the tyre placard (spelling) has some sizes for 15" rims, so does this mean i can or cant go to 17's.
All wheels should be legal as long as they read the right speedo and fit under your guards and dont rub while turning

tyre placard says it all, you can go 2" bigger than the biggest on the placard and 1" wider "usually" depending on which state you're in.

check with your local road authority.
im sure you can go 20" if you wanted its just the rolling diameter cant be out by more then a few cm's? or inch's? cant remember.
and if im correct
4cyl's came stock with 14"s
V6's came stock with 15"s.
i think the offset of the wheel will determine weather they rub or not. Chat with TR-Envy about it, he went from rubbing 16"s to non-rubbing 17"s, becuase of offset.
well i hope im right in saying that :)
*edit, damn beat me to it
tr envy: have u got 17's currently on your car, if so what type

Yeh my offset is abit further out then it should be (though you cant tell unless you really look). That stopped any rubbing. Any closer and you'd be pushing it. Ford XR6 rims are 17x8 and whatever offset they are, are just right.
*EDIT*
Also tuff, you wouldn't be able to go 20's as the tyres woudln't be legal (thats if you even have room for tyres left over). And i'm pretty sure 4 cylinder TS models got 15 inch stockies standard, whereas TR 4 cylinders got 14 inch stockies.

As far as I know those apply for VicRaods and RTA NSW. I don't know about SA. As already mentioned check with your local authority.
If you were in Victoria or NSW I could definately tell you if you can go 17" or not, but alas I'm not familiar with the SA regulations.
