hey i started driving down the road yesterday when all of a sudden the revs drop and my car wont go! After towing the car home im 95% sure that its a problem with the imobiliser somehow kicking in!best advice iv found here is to disconnect it from the ignition,i dont appear to have a plug but the wire was already cut and joined before by im guessing mitusbishi because this car apparently had the same problem before so i disconnected these again then re joined them, and still no go!the engine clicks over but just wont start!i really need help with this or i gotta pay a ****e load to have it towed to mitsu and get them to fix it and who knows what they will charge and im all outa money now after buyin new wheels!so please if anybody has had this problem or knows how to fix it i will give you my soul if you help me!oh i also tried disconnecting the other wires from the ignition it did nothing

reprogramming the key requires you to turn it on and off several times really quickly

I've never heard of the whole distributor in a magna ****ting itself. Distributor Cap...... sure, all the time - and a hell of a lot cheaper than $1400.

Who told you the dissy was stuffed anyway?? If you know a trustworthy auto electrician (ask a trustworthy mechanic to recommend one if you dont) - I'd get their opinion.

this was what the mitsu mechanics in penrith said and when we asked if you could just repair parts in it they go nup can only get the whole thing and gotta ship it in from adelaide!so im pretty much tellin them to go **** themselves and gonna take it to a mate who probably can do it for $50!hope so anyway i need my baby back!!!

you know anyone willing to take a look and see if they know what exactly is wrong. I mean i dont think its the entire distributor, but you never know, I think mitsu just dont like you lol , i think you should take a look round and see how much, other mechanics would charge you. If you can just buy the distributor, i dont think they are that hard to fit, as long as you disconnect the battery.

i dont no i didnt actually get a chance to look at the distributor before it got towed away to mitsu but il get it towed to a mechanic i no and get him to have a go at it see what happens there.

hey dude..
1400 is very steep..
and don't listen to mitsubishi... they full of you know what..
i had noise comin from my car.. and went to mitsi (as my dad was overseas)
and they said it could be all sorts of things.. however they couldn't be certian.. until they checked it.. which cost of course.. then they said its most likely the compressor. because it only happened under A/C at that stage...
and i thought... these guys have no idea..
so left it and waited for dad to get back... asked him.. took him 5 minutes and he knew exactly what it was.. turned out my fuel pump was noisy... nothing wrong with it.. just its noisy. BTW my dads an auto elec.. although retired he has over 25 years experience..
he lives in kiama.. i will ask him if he minds takin a look. but you would have to get the car down there. and he wouldn't fix it for nothing either...but again i have to ask him..
btw have you tried testing the dissy to see if ur getting spark thru to the plugs?
also check that the inside of the dissy cap hasn''t got corrosion on the contact points.
and yeh.. never heard of the whole dissy goin "byebye"
cheers

That leaves $1,100 to get it fixed.. I'm sure that'd still be cheaper than mitsu ;) :)

I hope this works for you, but it really sounds like it could be a stuffed battery. If this dont work, try another battery before doing anything
