8 grand max
modifications contrary to popular belief do nothing for your sale price.
The problem when selling a car is that the money you have put in to it you can never get back (eg: wheels, sound system etc). Most people just look at year, kms, and condition.

so do you think i should take the sound system out and just leave the speakers in a put a cheap head unit in coz that sytem cost me $1500.
and i was also thinkin of advertising the car for a bit higher than 8 like 9 so they can bargian the price down but not go under 8. :D

well with all that extras there might be a chance of u gettin a good price but also dun forget mangas are getting cheaper as we speak. urs is a 97 magna with 170000ks and there are cars like TJs with less ks and u can pick them up under 10gs. as AFA said ppl mostly go for condition and milage. the best thing u could do is get cheap or even a stock HU. stock wheels and sell ur car as a completly stock car and keep the extras for the 180sx. if ur rims are in good condation u can get bout a grand or so for that.

Take out the sound system and go back to stock rims, you'll get about 6-7k for the car.
Like others have said, you can get TH's now under 8k.

sounds like you need to aim your sale at a younger buyer
look around on carsales and carpoint and see what they have for the price you want to sell for, dont look at what your model is selling for.
then, once you have worked out your price, make sure you have the big interested sticker on it and park it at places a 16yo would hang out, becuase they are the ones that are gonna cry to mum and dad about it. put it at schools in the early morning, like from 730-9 so all the older kids see it as they get to school.
also, spend the money to put it on carpoint and carsales, its only like $20 for both and you can put a free ad in the trading post.
***dont listen to redbook if you are selling privately, keep the figure in the back of your head, but aim up from there***
Edit: remember to do an advanced search and make sure you look at the prices of manuals or autos only, and 6 or 4cyl only. This (http://carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.private_results?price_min=5000&price_max=15000&category_id=3&search_type=21&make_id=3&model_id=57&keyword=&state_id=4&selected_region=&search_postcode=4551&search_distance=250®o_vehicle_id=&cs_body_id=&drive_id=&km_min=&km_max=&year_min=1996&year_max=&door_num=&cs_trans_id=2&cylinder_num=6&engine_low=&engine_high=) is the only selection of manual v6 magnas for sale within 250kms of where i live priced between $5k and $15k. in otherwords, i would be silly to put only $6500 on my car which is $700 more than what redbook says.
