800?
Doubtful.
Get the kit for about $150-$200 and then labour will be around $2-300

do not use second hand chains and guides, better off to get the money you are going to spend on the labour and post it to me as it will be a waste you having it.
It will nto last long, unlike a head it is not made to be cleaned and changed over

or just put up with the chain noise till you cant put up with it anymore ?
ive been given mixed answers to that, some say that even tho its only for a sec on startup, and isnt there after oil pressure is up, itll still eventually die, some say that if its not a sound thats during normal operation then its fine. i got no idea, if anyone ACTUALLY knows then id be pleased to hear it.
anyone know the going rate for valve steam seal replacement on a 2.6 efi ?

There is an adjustment of the balance chain that can be done through the timing cover that sometimes works, grab a manual and check it out, may help

These might help:

Note that chain adjustment is not recommended on TR/S because of the self-adjuster.
$800 is a crock of sh*t. Rob at Ringwood sells COMPLETE chain kits for the TR/S for $99.00

800 IS THE NORM
8 HRS LAB
APROX 528
THEN ROCKER COVER GASKET
SUMPGASKET
AND TIMING CHAIN KIT
IF OIL LEAKS STEAM CLEAN
IT ALL ADDS UP

Have you tried to tighten the chain tensioner first... it could be the balance chain.. so try this... on the right side of engine you'll find a small plate about 1/2 way down. i think it's 2 12mm bolts to undo. Then undo the nut inside, press down the small lever next to it and whilst pushing down redo the nut. Thought you might like to try this first before spending any money .... Shawn

I've had to set the RPMS on my '95 TS to just over 1K as any less the Timing Chain rattles like hell. I was told by a mechanic that the trick some use is to just thread a new chain through and take off one link but as this new chain wears the problem returns 6 months later. I'm sure that's what happened to me. I can't remember what part of the kit it's called but he said there's one bit that you need to remove the Oil Pump to get to and instead of doing it they just leave it off.. i'll try to find out what it's called.
