hey i just wondered wat good mods for a tr magna with a 2.6 litre carby motor in it would be and if anyone new of some good online preformance shops
hey,
i got the same car as you, tr 2.6 carb 5 speed, and the beginning mods would be:
CAI (Cold air intake) and K&N panel or pod
Pacemaker extractors
2.25" catback exhaust with high flow muffler
That's the cheaper upgrades, after that its more towards port polish, cams, turbos etc...

wat cam could i get for it
i'm not sure as i havent even done the beginning stuff quite yet but if you wanna check out the prices etc... talk to philcom rally (post a thread up in his section under sponsors) or check out www.rpw.com. (http://www.rpw.com./) I would suggest looking into what upgrades you want in the end as this affects your cam choices etc...
edit: talk to tr envy as he seems to have done some mods to his car.

If you wanna stick with the carby, i believe you can get webbers (maybe even duel) which give a huge boost, but if i were you, the best mod would be to convert to EFI :P.

i'm gonna do convert to efi but i'm not sure how much it would cost to get a proffesional to do it. I could do it, but if i stuff up i gotta pay for the stuff up, if someone else does it they pay for it.
I'll do it myself if i find how to convert it (step by step guide).

thanx, i'll take a look
damn, i feel like to change my exhaust to 2.25" as mine is 2.5".. i might actually do it and move mine to my bros car (which was the original plan)
hows the power/torque thru the rev line in all gears with the 2.25"?

I drove a 5 speed 2.6L carby 2nd gen Magna for 3 years. I have concluded that there is no real way to get decent performance out of them on a budget. I honestly wouldn't bother (no offense). The best value for money performance upgrade you can do is probably sell it and buy the 3L V6 version Magna. You will find that the V6 and 4 cylinder version have the same fuel economy anyway. Bizarre? Well the 4 cylinder is a 2.6L which is a very big capacity engine for a 4 cylinder. Combine the fact that you often have to have your foot all the way down on the accelerator to accelerate properly, and the weight of the magna, and it's no surprise really. Carby, FWD, and astron engine really doesn't have much potential. Sure some say you can if you turbo it etc, but that'll cost you a lot. I'd stick with just a basic muffler upgrade. I had a Lukey LR2779 on mine, and it somewhat helped.
If a TR 5 speed carby is worth $2000 and a TR 5 speed V6 is worth $2500, when you think about it, you're only paying $500 more for a car with 40kw more power. 85kw carby or 125kw fuel-injected car? I know which I'd choose, especially for only $500. By the time you buy extractors and a muffler that's already $500 and it might only be at around 94kw anyway and still carby obviously.
I don't mean to discourage you mate, because I was exactly the same as you were. I've weighed up the costs vs benefits, and there really is no good value for money performance mods you can do to a carby astron engine because for $500 you can upgrade to the V6 which is 40kw more powerful. Spend $500 on upgrading to the V6, THEN spend your $1000 on extractors, muffler, CAI etc, and then you will have a good performing car.

Hmm apparently the v6 vs 4cyl doesent really make much of a difference anyway
One of my mates was saying he was looking to buy a TS back in 94 (was upgrading from his 1st gen featured on fastmagna), and he was looking at all the car mag reviews, apprently the 4cyl had a slightly better 1/4 mile time..how this works i have no idea.

From what i can gather from what i've picked up on the forums, you'll notice the torque curve shift to the left more. So you'll feel the power kick in earlier, but wont have as much up high (which i believe is better :D).
i thought thats wat wouldve happened... mines gutless off the mark up till higher rpm- i feel it kick in much later
