Hi All

Just got 18’s on my tj, will post pics soon :o)
Sorry, I’m sure this topic has been posted a lot
Could I please have some advice/opinions on lowering.
I’m going for lowered King Springs this weekend and I’m unsure of wat to use:
Low Kings Front and Rear
Super Low Kings Front and Rear
Super Low Front, Low Rear

I don’t want to have to roll guards and don’t want it too attract too much attention from police so super lows are probably out of the question? But, what about the Super Low Fronts and Low Rears, does it look better than lows all round?

Any advice/comments would be appreciated!

Thanks!

want it to look good? = superlows front & rear

want the front to look lower than superlow all round? = S/Low front, low rear

want it to look like it needs lowering = lows

King stopped making super lows for the rear because the cars were bottoming out. Whiteline make them but you have to use their shocks or else, you guessed it, you'll bottom out :D

Personally I like Lows all round for handling. Unless you can afford adjustable coilovers like fancy pants Mr Seiryu over there.

The 3rd Gen FAQ has an incomplete table of ride heights and ground clearances (http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Suspension_And_Handling#Ride_Heights) to give you an idea of how it will change your car's stance.

without changing your suspension its a bad idea to go superlow/superlow.. in fact its probably not a good idea to go superlow/lows either :/

Are you changing your shocks?

I would go superlows front/lows rear and maybe compress the rear springs at a later stage when you want it a bit lower.. that way you can specify exactly how low you want it, and its not that costly either. superlow/superlow might be a little too much.. I think the front needs to be lower than the rear.

I have superlows front and lows rear.. Ive been very happy. and should I come into a fair bit of money I would compress the rears slightly.. Pics can be found on the links below.. (or www.mysti.org/magna/ )

Thanks for that, does the gap between rim and guard look the same on front and rear with superlow front and low rear?
If that makes sense…
I just want it too look even, I know that the guard is higher at the front.
And when you drive the car does the back end feel like its riding higher than the front or can u not notice?

The distance in the front between the wheel and the guard (with my 17s) is slightly less (ie lower) than the rear.. but its a matter of about 2cm difference..

When im driving i dont notice it. Even compared to driving other magnase which have compressed springs on the front and rear you dont feel like the rear is riding higher.. just means that when going through dips/over bumps/driveways i can speed up after the front is through and the rear wont hit... I always forget this in other cars and scrape the back end

IMO the car looks more balanced with superlows front and lows rear... the perfect solution would be superlows front and compressed lows on the rear which dont go as far as a rear superlow in other brands.

You will find king springs to be very durable and quite stiff which gives a noticeable improvement in handling.. Stay with king springs!

Kings superlow front and low rear will give an even gap.

It doesn't look like the back is higher, or doesnt feel like it. Super low front and low rear is the usual 3rd gen way to go about lowering

Cheers, would i need to have the guards rolled to accomodate the 18's?

No. Not unless your running with some phat rubber...

If you keep the rolling diameter the same you shouldnt have an issue.

:stoopid:

and assuming you've got wheels with the right offset.

really? mines the other way around. I have superlows on the front, and lows on rear, but the front looks higher!
I'm still on standard schocks though...

The mags are 18x8 and at the widest point of the wheel and tyre they line up exactly with the outside edge of the guard… ie if I lower too much they will definitely connect with the guard, which ….wouldn’t be cool obviously..lol
Would I be safe getting superlows in the front, knowing that I will still have stock shockies for a while. Would I be risking damage or is it highly unlikely that they will rub??

Sorry guys just really really wanna make sure, otherwise I will just go with lows all round

Jump in the car and turn the wheels to full lock, then have a look how much clearance you have between tyre and guard. For added effect do this while the front suspension is compressed from a driveway or speed bump.

I've gone against the trend..
Lows on the front and Superlows on the back. (Cruz Look  )
I also have 19x8s with 245s.. didn't need to roll the guards though there is only about a 1cm gap between the tyre and the guard lol

*edit* didn't read the above posts.. make sure you have the right offset.. mines .45 i think

Im on low Teins that have dropped me 65mm at both ends.
Also on 19X8 (245) fits into the guards perfectly with a 1cm clearance.
Didnt need to roll the guards.
