hi, anyone have any pics of the stock rear swaybar on a TJ?

I just had a look at a mates 99 sports magna and the rear subframe looks quite different and was wondering how and where the stock swaybar fits on a TJ.

I am looking to get a whiteline one and from a couple of pics and reports that I have read it fouls body/susp on the lowest setting and I want to see how it differs from the stock one before I fit one.

Also is it best to fit a pair of swaybars at the same time or is it ok to just the rear? I am thinking that the stock front sway bar has been calibrated for a car that has no rear bar so there may be some unusual handling traits?

any feed back welcome and yes I have searched these forums.

There are two types - on the executive (which never had a rear swaybar fitted) whiteline have a kit with fittings to mount onto the axle etc.

On cars already fitted with a swaybar, all you get is the upgraded swaybar and the nolethane mounts.

Fitting a rear swaybar (I fitted the 22mm non-adjustable) to an executive is one of the best mods you will ever do. Don't bother with a strut brace - they do SFA. Front swaybar is exopensive to fit as the exhaust manifolds have to come off IIRC.

Heathyoung - Have you noticed any sudden lift-off oversteer in the wet?
Is it still predictable in wet - say around roundabouts?
I don't want any sudden changes in handling if my missus is driving the car in the wet, I am ok with sliding but rather have a car that is still predictable and progressive when it breaks away. Is this how your car is now with the non-adj. 22 mm swaybar?

No real problems with lift-off oversteer, it has increased a bit, but the car is very predictable - easy to get back into control.

My wife drives the car now (it is my old executive) and has no problems with it. The rear bar makes a HUGE difference to the stability of the car, less body roll, better steering response. My wife hated to drive the car before, said it felt like a barge (she was driving a little VW Gold GTI with massive front and rear swaybars, and very hard suspension) after I fitted the swaybar, she stopped complaining - well about the barge-like handling, she never stops complaining :bowrofl:

I still think it needs some more suspension work (like stiffer springs) but that may be because I drive an AWD now - you can have the suspension too stiff though - 4 wheel powered drifts through roundabouts in the wet are lots of fun! :D
