hey guys. im borrowing a friends 95 magna wagon (2.6l 4pot) auto.
this thing is absolutely fubarbed. the only reason im driving it is coz me cars off the road, and it hasnt been driven for 8 months because a mechanic told them the engines going to go, but they arent very mechanically minded so werent able to tell me the problem the mech found for me to try and fix. im used to driving manuals and dont know much aobu thte autos. ive done a quick search without finding anything.

basically, because this engines so stuffed, up until 1500rpm the engine makes a horrible noise, literrally like theres a marble in a cylinder. (no not bad tappets... far worse :P)

so what i tried doing was just a bandaid fix by upping the idle rate to 1500 via the screw on the tb. this i thought worked perfectly, so i went for a drive. but it only idles at what you set it to in P or N, but goes back to normal revs when u put it in a gear and hense makes a shocking noise. what im lookign to do is up the idle rate (in gear) to 1500rpm.

sorry im not interested in ppl saying fix the problem. its not worth it, a new engine is coming soon, and i jsut need this to keep me on the road, for a week or 2.

my only worry is taht the in gear idle speed is computer controlled beiung efi.

if anyone is able to point me in the right direction on how to bandaid fix my problem :P that would be much appreciated! :P
thanks guys

btw, it sounds like the timing chain, so if ne1 has a temp fix on tightening it without taking too much time, im prepared to try that too

mebbe an oil change, or you could just chuck it into neutral whenever stopped. I generallhy do this anyways as I can't stand the astron's shaky in-gear idle

The reason why the revs drop when in gear is because the transmission is engaged.
