View Full Version : Can I stop my doors from locking automatically??

Washing my car this morning, dried her, pulled the keys from the ignition, then the dog started digging! As I went to chase her away, dropped the keys on my drivers seat, shut the door and came back around a minute later, locked out!
I hate that!

The dealer who sold me the car (not mitsu), only collected one set of keys, so I had to break in (luckily, I grew up in Blacktown :P ) And given the price of new keys, well..... I'm saving up! Can't believe the actual key costs more than the remote!!

Is there ANY way of reprogramming the remote locks, so it doesn't automatically lock? I mean, really, if I leave the car unlocked, I deserve to be robbed...... and if I lock it, but someone wants to get in.... well I took 28 seconds, and I'm 17 years out of practice!

I just don't want my wife to be standing on the side of the road, with my 10 month old son, waiting for the NRMA. Any help with this?

I believe that normally, should you unlock the car and not open a door, it will relock itself after 30 seconds. This should be the only time the car will automatically relock itself. It's the only time mine does. As such, if you unlock it and open any door, the car should stay unlocked.

If the car was unlocked, the key subsequently removed from the ignition and the door closed, the car should have stay unlocked. I do this every time I fill up and the car is still unlocked when I go to get back in.

So yeah, I have no idea how that could have happened.

On the door you opened, the door pinswitch is flakey. My wife's car does this as well, but only on the one door. I have been meaning to fix it but meh.

They seem to do weird thing sometimes - the interior light comes on, but the door-open light on the dash doesn't. If this happens (even sometimes) replace the switch.

Thanx (I've never done that before.... something really attractive about intentionally mis-spelling words, isn't there?) for the advice, might go to Mitsu and get them to deal with. still under warranty, and these boys are very touchy about anyone but them changing so much as a light globe! Thanks again.

I've noticed this only happens however when you use the central locking remote. Use the key and it won't lock itself. I found this out cause my remote battery is flat. Gosh darn it.

I found the same. If you use the remote to unlock the doors and want them to stay unlocked just open and close any of the doors and it shouldn't re-lock.

yep, a lot of cars now do it..

when we unlock the car yard at work we have to press the unlock button then open and close the drivers door..

when i first started there i was like "WTF!? why do we have to do that, you can tell they unlock coz the indicators flash"

was then told that they will relock themselves if you dont do it..
