Gear Knobs, are they a universal fit?

nope.. different cars use different threads

ALTHOUGH, most come with rubber nipples (lol) that fit over your origional thread

then you screw securing nuts into the nipple (lol) and bobs your uncle

not the most secure thing though... remember that drag with the SS i told you about?

if you go into any autobarn or car place they will pretty much all fit on., like what has bin said allready, they come with 3 different sized sleeves which you choose depending on the size of your shaft, 8-10-12.
TIP: if you get one, i recomend investing in a product called Lock-Tight or another similar product, this will hold the little screws in place because aftermarket knobs always find there way loose.

and what if you wanna take it off later. Sorry but lock-tight makes it pretty much impossible to get loose. From my experience, its good but i wouldnt use it on a gear knob as i have to remove my centre console to get to my cd player out/in because im gonna upgrade it later

If you're a whimp and can't tighten it right. I didn't use locktight and mine never came off.

Lock-tight is just a brand. There are different types. Some types quite literally 'lock' the thread, but others just firm it up to prevent rattling loose. Just choose the right one and it should be fine.

Yep. Fitted this one (https://www.autotek.com.au/shoponline/productDisplay.cfm?action=display&merchID=258) over chrissy. As has been said, they come with different sized rubber sleeves that fit over the thread on your stick then the knob slides on over that. It's held on with three grub screws and the hex key to tighten them comes with it. The small metal bit on the base has to go on before the knob then screws up onto it to hide the grub screws.
Also, with the knob I got, it's quite tall and when I put it on at first is was like shifting gears on a bus, so I got out the hack saw and cut off the top part of the gear sticks thread. If you don't know, the 3rd gens have two threads, a smaller on above a larger one, to screw into the standard knob. Hard to describe, but unscrew your knob and you'll see. It's now at about the same height as the standard knob was.
Which one did you get? You should be able to find it on the auto-tek website I linked if it's momo. Give us a linky....

i'm using this one in silver

i'm pretty sure i used the thinnest sleeve that came with it. i've had to re-tighten it a couple of times, but i dont really do it too hard in fear of stripping the allen-key heads.

Use candle wax over the threads of the screws, stops them jumping loose yet can still be unscrewed with a little more force. Safer then Lock-Tite cos it doesnt dry and get harder over time.

Couldn't find it on that website you linked to...... but here's a pic taken from www.momo.com:

I'm intending on getting a short shifter in the very near future too, so if it's too tall with the std shaft - that's just more incentive to get the short shifter sooner.

So Asylum; you've got a momo knob ( lol ) (looks like a similar shape to the one I'm getting) + a short shifter kit (if I remember correctly) - hows that combo work for you?? is the nob higher / lower / about the same as normal??
