Lately, I've been having some starting problems with our 3.0l TF, which I attributed to the battery becoming a bit tired. The local garage quoted a price to test the charging system, change the battery and "do a reset".

Can someone please tell me what a "reset" is, and is it something that I can do?

About a month ago the battery lost all charge (ran dry  ). We managed to refill, jump start and recharge, but since that time, idle has been erratic. I now suspect that the battery is not properly charging at idle. Any starting difficulties normally follow long idles (aircon on, etc). Would this and the rough idle be because a 'reset' was required after the initial episode with the flat battery/jump start.

Thanks

he better not be charging you to 'reset' which is simply disconnecting your battery for a short while.. something which you can do overnight.

If your sure its the battery, just replace it with one of the new ones out and about , whether it be a cheapo one or a uber doober dry cell one... combine that with the above mentioned reset, and hopefully it wont be a big deal. Depends, if hes charging you ****loads for labour, its worth it to do it yourself.

And welcome to the forums

Thanks for the info.

My first thought was to just bung a new battery in, but I was concerned that it was not charging properly - hence the reason to take it for testing (although the charging light is not coming on during running).

I will try resetting. By a 'short time', do you mean minutes or hours, and what does resetting actually do. Do you think it may cure the rough idle that developed after the jump start?

Thanks
