hey guys need to ask a quick question. when it cums to car audio i have no clue wat so ever so my question is that i have the followin set up in my car:

alpine MP3 HU
6" alpine speakers for the front
alpine 6X9's for the rear
and 12" pioneer sub and pioneer amp.

i jus bought a alpine sub and amp which is more powerful then my current sub and amp so i was thinkin of takin my current sub and amp out and installin the alpine sub and amp and use the pioneer amp to run the rear speakers. so wat i wanted to know was that will the current power cable for the amp which i think is a 4 gauage or wat ever (dun know but its 4 sumting) will that be ok to run the alpine amp and also if i put a splitter and run another power cable to the pioneer amp will that be ok or will i need a fatter power cable.

a little off topic sorry but,
if you have the BBE setting on your head unit, with all that alpine gear it would sound awesome! makes the bass better and the music clearer!

BBE? Is the the same as the MX (Media Expander) Button? cos I used to use this button and it ended up causing my sub to clip, and eventually fried the voice coil very nicely..

IMO those bass boost buttons shouldnt be needed with decent amps cos all your tuning should be done through them.

i dont know if its like the MX
but yes it boosts bass and unless u have the type R subs can cause clipping, if u turn it up too high. it makes the music sound alot clearer IMO but if it causes problems then steer clear! :D

What wattage are your speakers/sub/amps?
I would say that should be OK. 4 gauge is rated at 110Amps and I doubt you will ever hit anywhere near that much. Then just run 4 guage from your distro block to each of your amps and from he amps to chassis.

speakers are alpine 6X9's 260W for the rears which will run of the pioneer amp.

sub is an alpine type s 200wrms, 600w peak:

amp is a alpine MRV-F345:
75W x 4 RMS [4ohm @ 14.4V 0.08% THD]
300W x 1 RMS [4ohm @ 14.4V-BTL (3ch/4ch) 0.3% THD]
75W x 1 RMS [4ohm @ 14.4V-BTL (1ch/2ch) 0.3% THD]
50W x 4 RMS [4ohm @ 12V 0.08% THD]

I would run 4 guage from battery to distro block and then 8 guage to each amp. Keep the 8 guage cable to the smallest length possible.

you'll need to make sure your HU has another set of Outputs, so yeah you'll Need another set of RCA's

if you have 4ga already there, well, no use ripping it out, that is unless you want to?
as ralliart410 said, use the existing 4ga there and split it to 2 x 8ga. that would be the easiest solution, if your running 8ga to the amps, just make sure to run 8ga to the car chassis aswell.

yeap HU has outputs for speakers and seprate output for sub. and also wat do u mean by make sure to run 8ga to the car chassis aswell??? is that earth? wat do i do with my current earth wire

[TUFFTR]
24-01-2006, 03:44 PM
yeah i meant earth.

whatever gauge POWER wire your amps are getting, it must be the same for EARTH

so if you got 8ga power to amps, run 8 ga to chassis (ground)

dont worry about what gauge your running from the battery, cause its being split.

you said your current earth is 4ga? run that piece of wire from car chassis in your engine bay to your (-) terminal on your battery.

when you said

has outputs for speakers
you mean like a front or rear RCA right?

let me draw up a wiring diagram ok...

to take the seats out and the carpet couldnt take more then a few hours, get everything you need before you start like ring terminals etc and set aside at least half a day to do it

I've never taken my seats out, so it is possible to do without taking them out.

Just reach under the carpet...

Good luck
