Have a 11/95 KS Verada with 130km on the clock and generally has been serviced. At cold start engine idled at 2000rpm and took 10 minutes to settle to a normal idle speed. Mitsubishi dealer diagnosed faulty Idle Speed Control Motor, which has subsequently been replaced. Idle is now 1500rpm and takes a couple of minutes to settle. (Better but not great!).

A different MMAL dealer has now told me that the ISC motor has nothing to do with cold start and doesn't kick until operating temp has been reached????

Also finding that auto is very rough on changes down as I pull up at lights etc and am concerned that this caused by incorrect idle speeds. When hot (at operating temp) idle is a little low and bounces up and down when a/c is on.

Does anyone have ideas on potential causes? What role does the throttle position sensor play?

The Throttle Position sensor tells the ECU how hard you have the throttle open so it can adjust the amount of fuel going in. The TPS also tells the auto when to kick down and whether or not to hold off upchanging
