Hey ppls, i was looking into making an oil catch can for my magna, do you reckon it would be of any benefit in our magnas? I know my magna gets a lot of oil back into the inlet hose, and this would mean a cleaner throttle body in the long run right? I know they're illegal, but how many cops are going to pull a magna over and check the engine bay? So any thoughts would be great.

dude i clean out my throttle body all the time, its the easiest thing to do, and they charge like 72$, i can do it for like free if ur in perth.....thats the best thing about having a mate that is a mechanic at skipper mitsubishi, u get all the free poducts they use to help keep yah car in good running ourder, where doing a service in another 5000km.....its hell awesome.....

I know how to clean the throttle bodies through madmagnas site, but it would just be easier to have to empty a can of oil, instead of cleaning the throttle body.

Not Meaning to sound Dumb but, Where does the can actually hook up to?
does it go on the hose between the intake and the valve cover?

Yeah, the oil catch can would hook up to the breather valve, which is what you are stating there petemal2000
what about freeing the intake of the filthy hot air that is being drawn through the PCV tube?
maybe the engine will produce more power?
see here:

actually K&N is making a special filter to be fitted at the end of the PCV tube (see pic attached)

Can pick them up for about 10 bucks. If your oil is clean it leaves a proctective layer of oil thruought your engine.
not really advised for a engine bay with alot of plastic and what not. nor does it increase performance. I got it because i had huge blow by before i recon'd my engine. now its still tehre cos it was attached to my cam cover when i reinstalled it. i have the breather hose still too.

I know that oil vapour is very effective at lowering the octang rating in fuels, which leads to a small loss in power.
I was thinking about replacing the hose to the intake with a small filter but i would imagine it would smell like burnt oil at times?

oil catch can is for forced induction really not necessary for n/a.
blow by from valve cover return to inlet manifold is mainly for emmissions, but as turbo caharade pointed it can also lubricate upper cylinder/valves a bit. the vacuum loss would be negligible, but if you want to put on something like the K&N breather filter cap for a racing look.

what if you redirect the breather tube and let it hang down, also fit the filter at the end of the tube - you won't have to worry about oily engine bay or throttle body then - see pic

good thinking. what engine is that in the pic?

Aurn thats what i want to do, I think our engine covers hide the PCV valuve, so i will just run some tubing down to the bottom of the engine bay and run some tubing that isn't connected to anything to the intake so if i am pulled over at least it will look like i still have it connected.

i read somewhere on this forum, mitsiman said that oil breather can make a very sick magna, dunno if it's only for modified magna or stock one..
