I've had this problem for a while now...when i first turn my car on its fine. When i put it into reverse or drive there is a rattling noise that comes from the engine. Then when i put my foot softly onto the accelerator it makes the rattling noise continually. Once i get to about 30ks the noise stops untill i get down to low revs again. After about 5 mins the noise goes. Sounds like something is loose and vibrating? Does anyone know what this is or has anyone had this problem with their TJ? My dad knows jack about cars but he suggested that maybe where my exhaust connects it has come loose? Any help would be great!

Yeah it could be your exhaust rattling at a resonant frequency. It could also be the heat shield or any other metal sheeted object under the bonnet.
It could also be your engine starving for oil due to low oil pressure or to yur oil being too thick :D
Its one of those ones you'd hafta hear to be accurate. try a couple of different mechanics and see if they say the same thing. They shouldnt charge you just to listen. :D

K thanx.....when i put my car in for its last service i told the mechanics about the noise and they said they would have a look at it. But by the time i had driven there the noise had stopped cuz the car had warmed up. I'll try another mechanic and see what they think it could be!

Hmm...
to me that sounds like what we call "Hyrdostoessel" in German - basically parts of the engine that have not received any oil yet...Once your engine gets hotter, and the oil flows more easilythe entire engine gets the oil and the noise stops.
Its a know Mitsubishi-thing in Germany......
I had the problem until I changed to "thinner", Synthetic oil. - Did the trick.
Cant tell u more unless I hear that noise.....

Do u think i should try changing the "thinner" too? Or if its not that will it make more problems?

I would ask your mechanic....generally, thinner oil is better.....but too thin can make your engine leak....
