Hey guys I have posted here not too long ago about the same topic.
I have a '93 Verada with a cracked head gasket...If I get it fixed, do you guys really think there is much of a life left in it considering it is 12yo???
I would keep it if i knew it would be in perfect running order after the repair....what do you all think, any gut instincts?? anyone had a similar problem..
Thanks

how many km's has it done, when did you get it etc... what other problems have you had. this may help in indicating its life.

You're a bit scarce on the details of the rest of the car mate. It all depends on your situation I guess.
I did a head gasket on my TR Magna a couple of years ago. Ended up going the whole hog and getting a reco engine fitted. Cost me about $2000 fitted. A poor decision at the time too.
Since then I've replaced the ECU, ISC motor, clutch, struts and most other things that people have had problems with on these forums. So I've got a pretty reliable car (now), but all up it's cost me way more than what the whole damn thing is worth. About the only consolation is the peace of mind that something won't suddenly "go" when I'm in the middle of nowhere. (touch wood)
Short answer: scrap it and start saving up for a GTO! :)
it depends on the car, i have had almost no problems with my car except my engine mounts, and distributor cap, cheap fixes and my car is running strong at 199000+ km
edit* the timing chain was replaced just before i got the car

Well the only major problem ive had with it is that it tends to misfire when under load...this was fixed with a new dizy cap and a set of plug leads, but problem has re-ocurred lately...could have something to do with the cracked head gasket.
It has done 220...was only 159 when i bought it.
It currently needs new brakes, possibley a steering column, but apart from blowing a little white smoke in the mornings (head gasket) it is ok.. The interior is immaculate for its age, so im not sure what to do.
It is a pretty tough decision...either fix it and keep it, or trade it in. With my current financial situation, buying another car isnt looking like the best option. However if I find that its not really worth repairing, then I will trade it in. It will probably cost me 2500 max to get everything fixed...or 10k to get another good car.
what do you think, hope ive supplied enough info.
Cheers

I wouldn't spend the $2500 to get it fixed. You could probably get away with a new head/head gasket for a few hundred bucks. Then drive it into the ground, while saving the dollars for a new car.
if thats your financial situation, get it fixed, but dont be surprised if you gotta recondition your engine in 30000km
