Use to have just the muffler

And yes there is a difference. That's the only difference between a VRX and executive engine/exhaust/intake wise.

are you talking tip, cat back or extractors

tip= nothing, but sounded better

cat back = more responive, revs higher, and sounded even better

extractors = i don't know

Tip or rear muffler? The tip is just the smart looking end of the outlet from the rear muffler.

I swapped my muffler only and saw a 10HP difference at the wheels.

I fitted some headers and saw a noticeable increase in the midrange torque.

Replacing the stock tri-flow muffler with a straight through muffler is the first mod you should do because its probably one of the best performance per dollar mods.

On my TR it made a fairly noticeable difference too. AS others have pointed out, the current muffler on the magnas is very restrictive, a straight flow is the best thing for it :). Problem with extractors and cat-back is that as soon as you start opening it up to use the extra power, ur economy is gonna go *BOOM*

well i have cat back system with a cannon on the back, recently had to swap the cannon back to standard muffler for regency inspection and it does feel a lil more sluggish,

maybe its just cos i aint hearing the noise... but dropping back to 2nd gear while doing 60 just dosnt seem to push u back quite so hard

Hey Guys !
Dont be missled with noise as performance !
The magna has a very restricted rear mufler, a good straight through center oval mufler but where the main problem is as "Peter Reeves from Carline Mufflers Perth" explained when i fitted a complete front to rear exhaust including extractors and a hi flow steel cat (15% restriction only) is the front exhaust when it comes down from the engine block all 6 outlets flow into one 2'' restricter inside the curve in the front section of the exhaust before it gets to the cadiledic converter which restricts a further 60% then as the exhaust excapes down the leingth of the exhaust through the straight through oval center it once again is restricted with the mother of all restrictors called the rear mufler. (shame on you mitsubishi)
The whole front to rear 2.5" exhaust incuds: pacemaker extractors, hi flow steel cadaledic converter, 18" straight through center muffler and finished with the big 18" S/Steel rear mufler. $1,440.00 fitted !
With the magna you will notice with the standard exhaust it hisses down the street but with the new exhaust its supurb !
Also there is no more "lag" when the revs peak between 5 & 6000 RPM as the gas now excapes cleanly! So the best 2 bolt on performance enhancements are a Pod so you breath easy and an exhaust so you expell the gasses !
And yes fuel consumption does increase because you have your foot on the GO GO GAS pedal more often lol

Who says magnas arnt race cars ?

i comptitivley race my stock 3.0 lt auto magna with bolt on parts against other falcon 6's XR6's and V8's comodores 6's and 8's BMW's above 2.5ltr and a big jag plus any one else that wants a run in a CAMS times special event and I pulled a 3rd over all against all the above !

Who says magnas arnt race cars ? any car can be competitive with the right combination !

so wat would it be like performance wise if ya were to change jus the rear muffler with a dual exhaust with the end tips bein bout 2" each or so..?The 155kW Exec TJ went to 163kW in the VR-X guise just by having the rear muffler replaced for a straight-through item. That's the kind of gain you can expect.

So wat would it be like roughly for a TE 2.4lt 4cyl which stock has 105kw at 5500rpm, based on this figure.?

Don't really know with the 4cyl, sorry mate. Maybe 4-5kW? It's still worth doing. The benefits add up with every other modification you do, and there's no point doing other exhaust mods until you've replaced the rear muffler.
