Hi i am new to this site and from what i have read looks very good,
Ok now my problem, i have a 8/98 tf v6 with a auto,,,, now well what i thought to be a huge miss was not, i replaced plugs , leads, dizzy cap and still has the problem,
It seems to take off ok but as its not far off changing into second gear it starts to get like a shudder and then gets worse when it hits second gear then slowly goes away and doesnt do it in 3rd or over drive, The box has a great shift pattern.
Ok i have tried to reset the ecu like the auto trans shop told me but still the same,, check all fluids and there clean, i said it feels like a shudder ok but i feels more like a miss is the best way to describe the problem,If i drive it realy gentle it doesnt seem to have it but gentle as in slow as my dads driving lol,, I am seriously ripping my hair out
( WHAT I HAVE LEFT LOL)
any one with any ideas would be great because i realy dont wanna go buying gearboxs if its something simple we are over looking, checked all mounts and cv.s and front end as well,i even put std wheels back on it to see if that was the problem, NOPE DIDNT HELP ME
Fantastic car i cant fault it, we lowered it has 17;s on it and we realy like it but near the end of my stress levels
Thanks again

Hi mate..
I am sure that others can help you more as I only drive manuals....
A similar thing happened to my woman back in Germany with a Golf III Convertible Auto.
The problem with her car was that the car had changed into a "safe mode" where only the first 2 gears will work....to prevent more damage to the gearbox - i.e. something is wrong in the gearbox itsself. I am sure that Magnas have a similar "Safe Mode" - if you dont get any help here, check with Mitsubishi.
Have fun and welcome to the AMC!

Thanks for that i am going to call mitsu dealer on friday and see what they have to say, You said it feels like it goes into safe mode and thats a better way to describe it, When it starts it seems to lose power and seems realy sluggish untill it gets into 3rd gear unless u are giving it a flogging from the start, One person told me the ecu could be playing up and will make it do this but i would say someone on here has had same issue I HOPE
Thanks again :D

When you said checked all fluids, did you mean checking the Auto transmission fluid?
A word of caution is never use any other brand of ATF except Mitsubishi SP3 or 4. Not sure you have yours done and flushed properly but if so this wouldnt happen.
Hope that helped a bit.

I dont see why you're relating this to the transmission? If it were going bad you'd feel more then a shudder, it would be slipping in and out of gear, odd shift points, jumping gears and all sorts.
I'd put it down to a suspension or mount issue myself. You say you had it lowered? did you get the car realigned after that as a misalignment will cause all sorts of problems. It seems at a certain rpm/speed range you're getting a bit of a wobble thats causing the problem. I could be wrong though so dont take my word as gospel.
You only need to disconnect the batter for a couple seconds for it to clear the ECU/TCU. However this doesnt clear the codes stored in them. Take it to a shop to get scanned to find if there's anything actually wrong with the motor/transmission before throwing parts at it.
I'd still say its a mount or suspension problem though.

Hi thanks for the imput, I tried resetting ecu again but no help and checked all the mounts car has had front end check, cv joints checked and wheel alignement, it is 100% gearbox shuddering, i will drop it off at the gearbox shop and i found a box for sale on here so i will contact him again and have it sent up to me, still like the car and worth spending some money on it,
