Hi, I just got a 1998 Magna Altera LS and I have a few questions to ask. Mainly n00b questions.
Replacing Headlight Bulbs:
- the service manual states the bulbs fitted are 12v 60/55w (for the lowbeams) and I was wondering if the 12v 100/90w bulbs I got recently would work.
CD Input socket:
- theres a small socket with CD Input written above it located on the stereo. I was wondering if it'd be worth getting the cable and if so do I just hook it up to a discman? or would it be better just to go for a car kit (I'm saving for a new head unit).
Speed Alarm:
- Say I set the speed alarm to 60km/h, and I go 80km/h (in an 80 zone of course :) ) would the alarm stop sounding or would I have to disable it?
Cheers! Hopefully I can make it to the next Melbourne meet you guys have planned.

if its the same as mine then it will "beep beep" and illuminate an orange "speed" light on the dash. It wont keep beeping but the light will stay on saying "speed" until you drop back under the set speed.
Becuase im on my P's im only allowed to do 80 so i set mine on 85.. its quiet handy..
As for the car kit/cable for the discman.. id be inclined to go the cable, just because of the fact that i reckon cassette = lesser quality.. but yeah, definatley save up and get a cd player HU.
the head light globes.. i have no idea

I take it this is a a Tassie thing?
First 12 months restricted to 80km max. and have to display P plates. next 24 months normal speed limits apply, no plates required and still no alcohol in body.

1. the bulbs will work
2. sounds like a good idea to hook up your discman to the stereo while you save for your new HU :D
3. beep beep... and thats all.... lol unless you go over.. then under.. then back over.. then you'll get "beep beep......beep beep" you get what i mean...

that caused too much heat in a previous car causing the plastic connectors to bubble and the wires brittle.

Wow! Thanks for the prompt reply and warm welcome :)
Was wondering what the cable was called and where I could get one? Mitsubishi dealer or maybe contact Eurovox?
And that Magna FAQ is great - I'm sure I'll be referring to it quite often in the near future when I do a few breathing mods.
Joukowski - Thanks for the advice mate, I'll do a bit of research on the brand of bulbs I got before I install them.

Won't it overload the wiring harness?
Yes as some have already mention it will melt etc...
You can get the high voltage wire adaptor for probably $10? allows you to use the high voltage bulbs without worries. But the best would be totally changing the wiring.

so far so good.. being almost a year... another problem when high 12v 100w bulbs is that it may discolor the lens.. (i got paras - the lens is some sort of plastic.. forgot the exact name of it...)...

Where can I get the high voltage wire adaptor from and is it difficult to install?
I pick up the car on Friday afternoon or Saturday so when I get some time, I'll take some pictures and post 'em up here for you to see.
**Update**
I picked up the car early tonight and its great! I plan to take some pics of it tomorrow afternoon and hopefully have them posted up by Sunday night\Monday morning. Stock as a rock at the moment but hoping to do a few minor things to spice things up a little.

all you need is a 3.5mm stereo male to 3.5mm stereo male patch lead, one end goes into h/unit and other goes into discman.
easy as pie.

Yeah i wasn't too sure if it was a 3.5mm phono or not - it looked a tad small just eyeballing it.
