Hiya, you guys seem to know a little more about this kind of thing than I doooo.... which i must say is not very difficult at all... but please don't go all techno on me as i am a noob at this sort of thing...

currently I have a pioneer DEH-P6750MP head unit and TS-A6971E 350W 6x9's 3-way (it's on the box lol ), which factory front splits.

I am looking at amping these speakers and replacing the factory splits with something of better quality.

the guy at JB hi-fi told me that I would not get much change out of a grand, inc installation for an amp and front splits...

any recommendations on the amp and splits with prices would be great, is it worth sticking with pioneer for the splits?

and is $220 for install of amp and splits the norm or what?

at this stage im not really interested in a sub but possibly in the future i could add an additional monobloc and sub... maybe...

thanks peeps

first of all, whats your budget?
if its 1K total i would look at including a sub aswell, one of these make such a difference its not funny.

if you got 1K you could get a very decent system for that price.

i think for budget-minded people, like myself, you cant go wrong with the jaycar range of amps....good features for next to nothing, i will leave magnat, tim, or mitsi to fill you in on speaker recommendations

Cheers Paul

Firstly, consider saving some money and doing the install yourself. It's not as hard as you might think. I installed my front splits, amp and sub, including all the wiring, and at that point I'd never removed a single trim panel in my life.. but it's amazingly simple to pull off door trims, take seats out, etc.

There are much better brands around than Pioneer for speakers. I'd highly recommend talking to Marty from Fhrx Studios (http://www.fhrxstudios.com). He posts on here often as Fhrx and appart from doing great deals he's always happy to help out with speaker recommendations based on budget and the type of music you listen to. It's always good to buy stuff from people you trust, which may not always be the local salesdroid from JB hifi.

Thanx guys well i wasn't really planning on spending a huge amount of money - i got the head unit and 6x9's for under $550 installed - which apparently is quite good considering i saw the sam HU else where for like $499 the other day.

Will continue to look around and see whats out there... too much choice!

i was hoping to get the whole system done for around $1500 with 550 already gone it leave me with about $950-$1k to play with for front splits amp - and maybe a sub but that can come later i guess...

any recommendations on brands and $$$ where to look in southern suburbs WA! would be a huge help.

cheers

if you wanna save some cash do the install yourself, and to find out how to get your doors off and stuff either search the net/this site, or just go buy a manual, it saves you money in the end, my mum and dad always bought manuals for their cars, and i never understood why till last year when i got my car and ripped my doors off and installed central locking, alarm, head unit and soon 6.5" splits and 6x9" and i had never touched electronics in a car or anything before hand, now it seems bloody simply. Its the easiest way to save money.

I'd go Focal's for the front speakers, or Hertz. Good quality, prices are reasonable.

Focal's are the 165v2's, should get these under $400. The V1's are lesser quality, but would still kill the pioneers or similar. Those V1's are about $280 retail.

Hertz - the legendary HSK165's. If you like music with much doof, these are the weapons of choice. About $340, and I would go for these over the focals due to my musical tastes.

Plenty of amping options, I'd look at a decent 4x100WRMS amp. Run the splits off the front two channels, run the 6x9's off the head unit. Just upgrade to thicker, better quality speaker wire from the headunit.

And grab a single 12" sub in a sealed (or factory ported) box and run that bridged off the rear channels for about 200WRMS through the sub.

Sub options: 1 JBL GT4-12 in a ported box - cost under $200 from Strathfield. I have two of these in a sealed box running off around 600WRMS from a monoblock (dedicated high power sub amp) and I have no complaints with the amount bass I get, however it is not the most accurate. There are other options, just grab a decent 12" sub in a box off the floor and throw it in the boot.

Plenty of how-to install splits threads on here, do a search. If you can use a jigsaw and a drill, and have some concept about wiring circuits, you should be fine to do it yourself. Usually a member near you may be able to give you a hand with it. AMC special benefits!

Don't forget to allow for RCAs and power wiring. If you go for a single 4x100WRMS amp, just grab a Stinger Hyper 4 channel RCA lead set, and a Stinger 4 guage power wiring kit. Allow about $230-$240 for that. Don't just buy a cheap 8 guage wiring kit, you will regret it later.

Any other questions, please ask

What music do you listen to?

Brand to look into are Boston, Hertz, Phass, Vibe, Focal, Morel, PG, Crossfire for splits. There entry level will be around the $300-$350 mark. Marty has the SL60 boston splits on sale for under $390  You should talk to him as not much will sound better for the price.

Amp: Crossfire 402, Audison SRx2, Audio System F2-130. They will be around $300.

Sound deadening: Dynamat 10435 Xtreme Door Kit RRP$129 or G-spot kit with 1 roll of Flexi-Max (1.3m square meters) and 2 Wave Breaker diffuser pads RRP$190.

Cables: 8ga wiring kit, Stinger / Audison RCA's $100

Total for say the SL60's / Audison SRx2 / Dynamat / Cables is under $900 :D

Marty can post, will probably end up around $950 with the postage but he give AMC members good prices :D
