Hi ppls,

About to buy some 6X9 and fron component speakers for my VRX. Someone has pointed me in the direction of MTX speakers.....are they any good??? The price seems reasonable for what this guy says they'll do.

How much are they and what components are you looking at? Overall Budget?

What music would be playing through these speakers?

You thinking or amping these in the future?

I can think of several brands that I would go for before MTX however they will probably be more expensive.

budget of about 400 bucks for the both sets of speakers and a front install only. i went to strathfield and they can do the MTX set with both install for $380
I'll put the back ones in myself. Not looking to amp. Just want some quality sound that beats the stock speakers. I have a blaupunkt acauloupo mp3 head unit.

Listen to everything except RNB and country music!

I had a amped and subbed up skyline.....sold that and now probably to old now for the big doof set up!

Yeah they'll last you for ages, have a listen if you like them then buy them, at least you don't have to worry about build quality problems.

If you can install the rear speakers, then you might as well do the fronts and save a few bucks as well.
Overall, the rear ones were probably more difficult because of the screws right at the back of the parcel shelf and you have to reach under the rear windscreen to get those out. Whereas the front door skins just pop out after you take off like 3 screws.

Thanks guys,

Do i need to change the original speaker wires for installing these types of speakers?
Also the front speakers are going to be component speakers....anything i should know about putting them in including the tweeter. Its a VRX so there are tweeter mounts already on the door corners.

Tweeter will probably be a bit bigger. Mine fit alright in terms of width, but they were deeper. I couldnt use the factory bracket.

In the mean time i have mounted them dodgily by shoving them up against the grille and a bit of blue-tak. seems to be fine though.

To be honest I think you are better off leaving the stock tweeters in and upgrading the woofer and add a better crossover. When you mount aftermarket tweeters up there they sound so bright unless you can annuate them down say -4db, you car will sound terrible. The stock tweets are not as harsh. Spend the left over money on a 11800 DynaXorb RRP$49.

Taking the door off is no problems, once you get told it is easy!

i had a listen to those MTX ones your talking about, man they pump loud and hard. if your just connecting them to a HU, and are not thinking of amping them ever you might not have to spend $200 on rear speakers if all thats going through them is like 15W.

honestly to just use off a HU you might be better off saving some money and buying pioneers or something, i had a listen to the MTX's while amped and it was very tempting as man they were loud :)

I have dual MTX thunder 6000 12" woofers and they go hard :). Definately a quality speaker, but i'd say more on the SPL side than the SQL side.

I've just been into strathfield and i got 6x9 mtx thunders to go on the rear parcel shelf. They have also got a new pricing scheme for installs  Gone up a fair bit

I haven't decided what i'll get for the front.....any ideas? in the mean time i'll stick with the stock front splits.

Another question...is the stock wiring okay for just a head unit and aftermarket speaker set up??

Okay....i've finally settled on this system.

>Blaupunkt Acalpuco MP54 headunit with steering wheel attachment
>Eclipse 6.5 inch 2 ways on the front....(he is going to leave the tweeters where they are and hook them up).
>Eclipse 6x9 on the parcel.

Eclipse sounded pretty good in the store and offer pretty good value....any one else out ther with eclipse gear???
