has anyone out there tried a spacer (say 25 - 40mm thick) between the inlet manifold and the throttle body - with the aim of increasing phleum volume .. . ..
several engines respond very well to this simple mod (ford v8, chev v8, fiat twin cam! etc etc).
would be extremly simple to make in a lathe, would need some longer studs
also
does anyone know the diameter of the new 380 throttle body - is it 68mm?????????
and would it fit a series 3?

25-40mm is a pretty big spacer, you would need to modify your intake piping etc up to the t/b if you were to fit such a large spacer. I've got a thermoblok spacer fitted which is about 8-9mm thick, and with standard intake piping it is very difficult to get the panel box to seal, and the intake snorkel to fit properly........ with a pod fitted in the standard position, it rubs up against the fuse box mount.
Apparently the 380 t/b is 68mm, but you wouldn't fit it to a 3rd gen..... it uses 'fly by wire' throttle, as opposed to cable throttle on 3rd gens - therfore impossible to fit without some customisation, which considering the cost of a 380 T/B - hardly makes it a cheap mod.

that might just work on an astron 2..... only need to move backwards. If i had acces to a lathe, i'd give it a go..
i have access to a lathe, however its a school one and i'm not exactly one to know what metals to use etc... if someone can supply some metal and what they want done i might be able to get it done during my free's. Just thought i might put that out there.
edit* i know how to use a lathe and my old metal work teacher would help me out a bit. Although the school lathe is kinda small, i just remembered.
