ok timmy and other experts here ya go
just about to install my new system that i have been aquiring parts for over the previous months and just wondering on your thought on a few things. The car it is to installed in is a 99 EK hatchback civic (when it comes back from the panel beaters)
Currently i already have an alpine head unit installed (7892 E) which is a pretty decent SQ headunit, although a few yrs old, but i plan on running an ipod into it so wont be a need for mp3. Purchased this for $250
Splits, to be installed are diamond audio M661 (rrp $650) purchased second hand for $260 in good condition.
Wiring kit already installed by me is an Areo Pro one 2 guage im pretty sure (RRp $220) go it for $100 i think off a local audio shop.
Amp, to be install is a jaycar 4 *100WRMS (RRp $300) paid about $230 new for this (thanks to some great guy :)). This will be running the splits at 4Ohm on 2 channels with the other 2 channels bridged for the sub at 2Ohm at the moment.
Ok to questions at the moment i have a 300WRMS pioneer sub (the silver bullet ones). Just wondering if this is going to let my system down, should i upgrade it or leave it, only looking to spend $150 to upgrade it to a different 12" or even 2 10"s but im sure 1 12" will sound better. What subs should i be looking at to upgrade it to?
Also sound deadening, i assume 1 2 door pack should do me for both doors with accoustic tiles behind the speakers. And will 1litre of the paint on do both door trims and parcel shelf as well as its light and rattles lots. Will prob also need to do the plastic mounts where the 6*9's used to sit (wont need them in such a small car, the passengers can deal with that im sure).
Any other suggestions on mounting for the splits would be great also, im after a nice SQ system with a bit of kick in the sub, (can turn it down on some music if need be)
thanks guys

hey, just a thing to watch out for... the 4x100wrms jaycar amp is NOT stable at 2ohms. Certainly not if it's the new one, and I still don't think so for the old one. Get a dual voice coil 12" sub and make it see 4 ohms bridged, then you'll be fine. You might also want to undo the lid of your amp, and check to see how close the big capacitors are to the metal. Check the lid for spark marks. This was the death of my 4x100 and nearly my 2x150.... I superglued thin hard plastic so it's got no metal to spark against.
I have a pioneer 12" which you can buy for 129 bucks I think. tsw306c I think it is. It's the 1000w peak, 500wrms one... but it is only single voice coil.
Ask around on here as to the dual voice coil jaycar subs..... I don't know first hand.
Jaycar is not going to be brilliant SQ, but it's not BAD sq. With your front speakers and decent deadening, you should be happy. If you haven't had a really awesome system before, you'll be thrilled! :)
Good luck!

Single 12" will give you more bass, but 10" will give sharper bass response. If your after boom the bigger the better. if your after quality the sharper the better. bassed on that id say go the 10's for sound quality. but then again saying that a good quality single 12" can sound very nice aswell

Your Pioneer Sub will do fine..
Your in a Civic.. not a Magna..
I did an Install for a Guy who had a 1991 Nissan Pulsar hatch , I installed 6.5 inch Splits and a 10 inch Fly Audio Bandpass Sub.. It Hammered nice and Warm Sound to it and sitting in the Back Seat you could Still Here all you needed..
So Yes your Current Sub will be fine...

I think he is refering to you being in a car with a small cabin therfore the single 12" sub will be fine. Why get so defensive this is a magna site so maybe it would better off getting advice from a civic forum who are more experienced in installs in a civic

Im just doing some Verada deadening as we speak... a 2 door pack of stinger expert or dynamat extreme will do the best job... The 1 litre of Sound off will do behind the trims. You may have some left over, depending on how well you do behind the trims.
If you want you can water it down a bit then you might be left with a bit left over, I dont think you'd have enough to cover the parcel shelf though.
Acoustic tiles: I just bought two for the job im doing now. You can get the good ones from Jaycar for $15 (for two) Im not sure if they sell the cheap ones anymore.
Good ones have square/triangle patterns, cheap ones have egg shaped patterns
Anyway back to work... will answer the rest when i get some time...

I used to have JBL splits in my VP they were great. sounded better than MTX which is what my mate had.
JBL make most of the top quality audio gear thats used at big concerts. thats gotta tell you something. They make great speakers and at under $100 you cant go wrong. That being siad ive always had Pioneer subs and they have been great but you get what you pay for in the end :)

Whos the great guy! :D
Your sub should be fine, but I can vouch for the 12" Response subs. I have one in the magna and it goes hard and loud. You can get better SQ subs, but you will pay a lot more for them.
For an indication I used one 2 door kit and one single door kit of Stinger Expert Roadkill to do my front doors properly. And I had nothing left over.
In the civic though yours should be OK. If you want to change, the 10" Response sub would be fantastic.
Cheers

IF your 12" pioneer sub is the "C" type (meant for enclosures) then it will be perfect for a sub matched up to that amp.... I think from memory the model is the TSW-303C? If so, then its rated at around 160WRMS...
I've got the previous model to yours, and I love it!!! There aren't many subs that will sound as sweet off 160WRMS... so if you are going to upgrade then you will want to double the handling of your next sub to compare. The older Pioneer subs were very efficient (93Db/1W) and sounded quite good, especially in sealed enclosures. The only downfall they had was the size of the enclousure they needed (about 56L according to Pioneer).
The best enclosure I have had my Pioneer TSW-302C sub in (out of the 5 or so that I have made) is the one I'm using now, a 45L sealed enclosure with dacron inside, fed with 200WRMS. It's the perfect comprimise between SPL and quality, with a VERY tight hit.
:EDIT:
Soz dude, I think I'm talkin bout the checkerplate Pioneer sub...
Let us know if ya want to sell it!!!! :dancin:

yeh i might keep the sub for now i think, will search on ebay and some other forums to see whats out there though.
still gotta work out where to chuck one 12" sub and the amp yet, prob have to false floor it for the amp as the sub box needs to be 34L and i want it all right near the seat so i got room for the golf clubs and other gear.
the great guy is out there somewhere, who knows it could be you..
cheers mate
