Just curious, before taking it in to someone who actually knows how..

.. i just bought some 6.5" fusion speakers (FES-653).. in my gen1 it has 6" on the back shelf.. the fusions don't fit snug in the hole and of course the screw holes dont match up..

.. question being, whats the best way to tackle putting them in, i wouldnt mind having a shot but i thought i'd ask here first to get some decent tips or others experiences.

any help is greatly appreciated but if i have to i'll fork out the $ to get it done :) thanks guys

Quick fix - speaker spacers, plastic or painted MDF I think look tacky

But I put 6x9s in and made a new shelf liner out of two sheets of 3mm MDF and the original carpet
I cut the holes in the metal with a jigsaw and filed to fit

Hey!!! I'm thinkin of doin a similar thing to a 1st gen!!! Is it possible for you to post up photos?

I was thinking of using a 9mm mdf spacer on each 6.5" on the rear shelf too, but to avoid it looking tacky, I thought it would be a good idea to slip the spacer underneath the carpet in the rear shelf (so it wouldn't be able to be seen) and mount the speaker on the top....

make a spacer that sits down under the shelf which isnt visble except from the boot, this way you can fit 6.5" and dont have strange bulge out the top, use a 6" speaker cover.
