So i have some spare time on my hands so tomorrow I am buying a jigsaw and going to make some baffles for my front speakers, and possibly a fake floor for my boot. Last time i used a jigsaw was in year 8 shop class literally 10 years ago but anyways! :P
I've used the search function but didnt find exactly what I'm after.
So for the baffles im going to need about 10mm or so yeh? And with this waterproofing business, what do I use for that, just any paint?
Also, the stock plastic mount protrudes back into the door somewhat (cylinder shape), i'm assuming to protect the speaker, but if the mdf baffle is flush, I will have to design something similar will I not?
Wish me luck cos I am a complete noob at this sort of crap!

good stuff...
Its not too hard... Just trace out the plastic baffle. Note the indentations on the plastic. Cut out all the indentations too
Mark the holes, (if you want to use the existing screws, pre drill and also counter sink them with a larger drill bit (big enough to fit the whole screw in)
12mm mdf works a treat
Sealing = any paint, I use ordinary house paint. Whatevers on hand. Seal the sides well.
When mounting the speaker pop some sealant in behind the speaker (in b/w the speaker and the mdf)
Then again behind the mdf b/w the mdf and the door.
If you dont have any proper stuff (closed cell foam strips)
Just use blutack
Beware MDF contains formaldehyde = carcinogen = possibly cancer causing
Use a disposable mask, and dont let the dust sit on ur skin for too long otherwise with sweat it can seep into your pores.
No big deal, but just be mindful.
Peace

haha, serisouly. no biggy... I've used a router in a closed shed with the crap flying straight into my face for a few minutes... Im *cough* fine...
It's never been proven to cause anything bad, just be mindful when working in confined spaces. with no ventilation.
otherwise have fun!

MDF isn't too bad. It's when you decide to fibreglass your door-trim moulds that's when you should be a little more careful :)

any foreign particles in your lungs is bad news.
you body forms a mucus around the particles in you lungs to try and dissolve them, however anything that cannot be dissolved, sits in you lungs with mucus around it making it harder to breathe and decreasing your VO2 max, and possibly leading to further conditions.

eh, lucky for you 3rd genners its alot more easier.
taken off my dorr trim and i will now have to make a baffle type of thing to sit in between the door metal and the door skin (so it has something solid to rest on)
and then an outer baffle.....so much *** work etc etc.
makes me wanna just get verada door trims.....
ehh, i got a ton of 3mm MDF here so if i cant be bothered waiting this is going to use alot of joined together 3mm MDF....
well ill be back outside :)

well as it turned out i was slightly wrong about what i thought a jigsaw exactly was, so I had never used one before.....but I am happy to say that I've got it down pat pretty much.
I havent actually got the splits yet that I am going to put in the front, so today i just practiced with the jigsaw, and experimented a bit. Did a side by side comparison between my crap Pioneer 6" 3 ways on the stock plastic and my 12mm MDF baffles. Made more of a difference then i expected, on the MDF i could put up the gains higher without distorion.
Then i mucked around with my 6x9's that i used to have in the rear :P Got them to fit using a spacer, and clear the window, only for the door trim to not quite fit back on! They looked quite funny in the front doors, and didnt actually sound too bad, better than the Pioneer 6"s anyways.
I'd have pics but i lent all my camera's batteries to a friend
I'll wait till i buy my splits to waterproof the MDF and seal everything up and possibly sound-deaden (have absolutely no idea how i would go about that tho!)

Finally found a place that stocked brands like Focal, Hertz, Dynaudio etc. Maroochy Car Sound!
Tired of shopping around so i wanted to buy something then and there. Ended up choosing Focal 6.5" splits, the Access 165 or something. Got it in a deal for $269 with 2 mats of Dynamat sound deadening. Hope i will be happy with them!
So looks like I am going to have some fun this week :)
