I was looking at pricing of the 380's in the Trading Post on the web and found these prices:
http://www.freewebs.com/adz8989/mits380.jpg

I thought Mitsubishi weren't going to be discounting any of the 380's so that they could try and secure a greater resale value then the Magna/Verada. I take it this pricing is for the '05 plated model, but considering there is yet to be any additions (well were only 3 months from release) why would you care if it was '05/'06 plated. Still, $34,990 for an Auto VR-X seems awsome value compared to the $39,990 Mitsubishi state as the RRP on their website.

In comparison to this price (34,990) if you look around at other large cars it is impossible to beat, along with the longer warranty that makes Mitsubishi a superior choice. Though, with $5k off you would think that people would start to move towards the 380; so I was wanting to know if anyone here had any new on recent sales figures (Jan so far).

Also, this $5k off the price is a significant reduction, would Mitsubishi set a price which dealers can't advertise below or is it at there own accord? I was just thinking of resale as it seems a bit to knock off of the purchase price of the car new; especially considering they come with the 5/10 warranty and some (seen in today's carguide), scheduled servicing.

Although I'm suprised at the reductions I do believe (and hope) it will increase the number of 380's being sold.

consider that most of these cars at well below RRP have significant KMs on them

i think the main problem with the magna was that they sold them as run out models at $24k or something rediculous like that for about 12 months or more..... that could be the prob with the resale value.

joshlamb is also right by saying that they all (except 2) have a significant amount of k's on them to be classed as second hand.

Dealers are able to sell USED cars at whatever price they want.

Mitsubishi isn't able to tell them what to set the price at.

Hmm... i think the line gets drawn at about 20k's or something like that. anything less is new as its only ever been driven on and off trucks and around factory yards etc. anything more means its been a demo.

a new car is a car that has never been owned and never been driven apart from off the truck .... normally cars have about 25k's on them when they r delivered,

a demo car can have up to say 10 000kms on it but still hasnt been owned ... its juts been used as a test drive car for dealers who are using it as an example for how that model drives etc

buying ex demo cars can save u lots of cash and still get a practically brand new car

I just thought the price off the original RRP price seemed significant. Now after looking at these prices I probably wouldn't buy one new if I could buy one atleast $5k less in the colour I wanted along with the options I may choose (such as the LX for 37,990 which is in the nice steel grey colour on carsales). But still, 37,990 seems cheap for a car that has only done 5,000kms and is around 8k less then new.

A dealer tired to sell me one for that price, I'm like nah, they were pushy though, they still call me up. I've ended up getting an 03 TL VRX manual with 14000k's on it for $20000 including onroads. They had $30000 on it begin with, wooo hooo for me.

F***. Is that the price after trade in or was that outright?

F*&K $20k for a TL VRX is awsome value (especially with 14k on da clock!). Even after you bought that they're steal asking you to buy a 380? If your a after sporting saloon you'd want the VRX not the LX anyway.... but I don't understand why the hell they'd still ask you to buy a 380 once you'd bought the TL from them? (it was from them right?)

Well atleast they're trying to get rid of they're cars once people come into they're show room, but still why call a customer who has just bought a car

Good luck with your new car man! Hope you enjoy it! And at 20k purchase price the depreciation shouldn't affect this vehicle for around 12 more months and when it does it won't be as radical as if you'd bought it for $30k; infact you could probably sell it for more if you really wanted to  (heck TJ VRX's still fetch around 15+, so a TL VRX for 20 is soooo good value). And tell me how good is the stock stereo in it? Last time I heard one I was blown away, it absoulutely crushes any other aussie car (stock, of course).

I don't know how accurate that is. Alot of dealers I have seen are selling the TL VR-X models for $25+ But I spose (as in this example) the sticker price really means nothing.

And keep in mind the one they bought had only done 14,000km not 45,000-75,000km

Anyway, back to the 380. Has anyone here seriously considered buying one or going to buy one soon now that these (excellent priced) deals are around? My mum has said she will buy an LX model later this year and give me her KJ Verada as long as I show I deserve and need the car by getting a part-time job; so yeah, the KJ's mine

We were speaking to the guy at the dealer and he reckon's that once an LX is around a year old a 2nd hand model will be around low $30k; a price my mum would be very happy to pay considering the features it has.

Last note; does anyone know if sales of the 380 have picked up for January? (I heard that they're are just below 1100)

I bought a 2004 tl vrx 3 weeks ago and looking around the prices were all in the 25k+ area, Got super lucky with mine as they mis quoted the price at $22990. We traded in our old subaru and got a drive away price of $20490 which I was super pleased with as it's only got 22000k on the clock and is in the electro blue of the 380vrx, mitusbishi did about 6 tl vrx's in this colour so I was super happy to pay that much for such a nice looking well performing car.

I love that electro blue colour, I've only seen one TL VR-X with it and it looked awsome. It really goes well with the front grill and looks really cool. Once again thats a good price especially with 22k on the clock.

The 5/10 warranty still applies on used vehicles unless they have been privately registered- (fleet and demo cars will still have 5/10).

My understanding was that most demo's are owned by the dealership and registered to the business. This would mean they have been owned (haha pwned!!1). Although the kms are very low, you are still basically buying a second hand car. I would expect them to drop in price significantly, same as when the rest of us drive brand new cars out of the showroom. Sometimes I think alot of dealers ask too much for demo's, telling buyers they are basically brand new, which is misleading.
Also, who goes easy on a demo when they test drive? Not me. You test the demo to see what it can do, then order a new one!
