View Full Version : 0-100k/h time for manual TH 3.5V6
Hi guys, I've sold my KS Verada with the arrival of a work car, but I now miss having my own car that I can fiddle around with.
Therefore, I trawled some used car lots yesterday and I found a TH 3.5 Advance 5-speed manual (Pewter silver in colour) I didn't know they made TH Advances in manual ; It seems quite a nice package, full electrics including cruise control, and the added fun of a manual matched up to a strong torquey engine.
This particular vehicle was a May 1999 build and has done 227,000km, but I took a test drive and the engine and gearbox feel excellent, not worn out at all. Is there anything or any issues/problems in particular I should look out for in a car like this one? The dealer's asking $7140 drive-away. Cosmetically it's in VGC in and out. The manual 3.5 certainly has lots and lots of power, and I wasn't even giving the car a hard time. It just seemed so easy to get moving, rather briskly too I might add!
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knew the 0-100km/h time of a TH 3.5 manual? I'm guessing it would be faster than the 4-speed 3.5 auto.
And how would a TH 3.5 manual compare against a TS V6 manual?
Any info would be great guys, thanks heaps
Justin

hmmmm well it would post around a low 15 down the 1/4 mile, which would mean around the mid to low 7 seconds 0-100kmh mark, give or take :)
Which will be a crapload faster than your KS!

Check out this thread here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30330). It shows the difference you have between an auto and a manual in the 3.5, yes, these cars were modified but there is still a significant difference.
and yes, the ts will be back in your rear view mirror somewhere :D

I'm with Tim-E here. I'd suggest around 7.5-8.0, 0-100 and a 0-400m of around 15.0-15.5. It's no slouch, and drop that muffler off for something more free flowing and those times will come down substantially.

With all due respect to those parties invovled, but there was something seriously wrong with that setup. There are other cars on this forum that have acheived MORE kw at the wheels with LESS mods than the 121kw stated (one in particular is a 4 speed auto and is already at a disadvantage being an older model with 8kw less stock). An auto will not steal 20kw at wheels. Generally a manual will take 25% off the fly wheel value, an an auto will take about 30%.
Anywho, my best attempt is about 8.5s 0-100km (reliably just under the 9s) with my Verada when it had just a straight through muffler. Would be less with a TH Advance since the Verada carries a bit more weight. Get a manual and be done with it :)

Drive train loss for a manual is more like 15% and 20% for an auto.
Either or :) I was just goin by the numbers I got from my and others dyno results. But its all relative to the dyno and what gear the run was done in.
But you still proved my point, a 5% difference does not equate to 20kw over 141kw :) That auto should've pulled around 130-135kw.

but the auto is still going to have slower gear changes, not be able to launched as hard as a manual and be heavier.....

Absolutely!!! If only Veradas came in manuals :( But not for long
The fact that a manual is quicker is beyond doubt, especially when talking about the 4-speed autos.
So I think we're talking about 7-7.5s manual vs 8.5-9.5s auto for 100km/h. I think thats pretty conclusive :)

My old TF 3.0 auto pulled 98kW at the wheels with a muffler. This works out to be roughlly 30% power loss.

Just to clarify:
(one in particular is a 4 speed auto and is already at a disadvantage being an older model with 8kw less stock).
No it wasn't, they were both 155kW models.
Carry on........
Sorry my post was a bit vague.
I was thinking of Synrgy (147kw TH) who dynoed in at 125kw with similar mods to yours, except with Ralliart Extractors, stock plenum, stock exhaust (except muffler) and no fuel pressure reg. It will be interesting to see what his dyno result is like once he finishes his manual conversion for sure.
Now you have the better draw with the manual anwyay, and can have some fun :)
kw are always one thing, transmission and getting it to the ground is another!

I'm surprised no one has pointed out that the dealer wants a fair chunk of change for a car that's done well over 200,000kms. It might be in vgc, but you should get it checked out anyway, and you can definitely get it for a much better price.
