Ok, before any of the wags on this forum point it out, this post is obviously NOT relating to the new 380 model. I just wanted to brush up on my Magna knowledge (which can't be a bad thing?)

My understanding of the third genration Magna models is as follows:

1996 - TE/KE, 2.4 4cyl, 3.0 & 3.5 6cyl
1997 - TF/KF, 2.4 4cyl, 3.0 & 3.5 6cyl (no significant styling changes)
1999 - TH/KH, 3.0 & 3.5 6cyl (new tail lamps most obvious styling change)
2001 - TJ/KJ - 3.5 6 cyl (another new set of tail lamps, new bonnet and boot stampings, just to name a few)
2003 - TL/KL - 3.5 6 cyl (the Oliver Boulay styled bug-eyed model)
2004 - was there a 2004 model?

On which models was AWD available? My understanding is that only the bug-eyed models had AWD as an option (2003 - 2005).

Can somebody please fill in the gaps and correct any errors.

Thanks in advance. :D

Yep, TJ AWD's were made from Dec 2002-june 2003. Then the TL (2003-2004) & TW (2004-2005)

Also, TJ series I was available in a 3.0L 6cyl

Also, someone added this to the faq a while back (http://www.wermspowke.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page#General).

2004/5? - TW/KW - 3.5 6 cyl (the Oliver Boulay styled bug-eyed model). The Veradas went
back to having deeper front and rear bumpers with side reflectors front and rear. The front
ones are together with the side repeater. The Altera LS was AWD. VRX was available as FWD
and AWD and the KL GTVi was combined with the KL Verada AWD to create the GTVi AWD (my
car).

Yeh a few things:
Might wanna seperate the TE/F with verada models, as the 3.5L was only available in the verada and the verada didn't have the 2.4 or 3L model.
There was also a TJ 3L as well like said above.

Im sure im wrong but I didnt think the 3.5L engines came out until 1999 where they replaced all 3.0's?

Like I said, im sure im wrong :P

But we got the magna in 98, TF Advance with a 3.0, am I right to think that if we got gotten in it 99 that we would have had a 3.5 in it?

Indeed you are wrong. the 3.5L was finally introduced in 1999 (TH series) into the Magna models, prior to this only the Verada's were available with the 3.5L engine.

However the 3L was still available during the TH ~ TJ series, in fact the Exec's (and possibly other models) still came standard with a 3.0 engine.

Someone might want to add iwhether the 3.0 engine was finally axed in the TJ Series II because I've no idea.

Thanks for the responses.

The car I'd most like to own from the third generation of Magnas is a 2003 TJ Ralliart Magna with 5 speed manual, AWD and no body kit. Unfortunately MMAL never built such a car......
