For those of you who have replaced the factory plastic speaker baffle in the from doors of your 3rd Gen how did you go about making the new baffle?
1)Did you use 12mm MDF, trace out the pattern from the plastic baffle and attach a 6.5" speaker spacing ring to it?
2)Did you mount the speaker straight or angled as per the factory plastic baffle using fibreglass?
3)If you mounted it straight did you remove the shroud from the door trim?
4)What about the huge gap left between the speaker and trim? Did you use perhaps two 6.5" spacers?
Your help appreciated.

Traced outline of factory plastic cups onto 12mm MDF, then cut out circles to suit new speakers. Screwed MDF baffles directly onto door frame, then speakers into the MDF using tinnerman clips. Whole door frame was then sealed and sound deadened so that it was close to being airtight. Subsequently, no need to seal the frontal face against the door trim.
I made mine out of 16mm mdf. I traced it out of the original plastic frame. You're better off using 12mm though, because 16mm is a little too thick, and pushes onto the door trim a little. Just make sure you get the screw holes and the mounting diameter of the speaker hole right.
Yes, there are big holes and gaps everywhere. I used sound deadening sheets to cover up the big gaps, and silicon to seal up holes and smaller gaps. I didn't mount my speakers on an angle, coz i cbf putting that much effort into them. If u want to mount them on an angle, either do what tim did, or fibreglass them.

Thanks for your responses.
Eclipse head units are renowned for their SQ and quality build. I wouldn't say there the best out there but they are certainly up the top somewhere.
