Hi Guys,
I have recently purchased a 2004 TL ES Magna.
What tyres have you guys changed to when the original RE92's were ready to be changed?
I need some new front tyres.

Thanks

I think the Toyo teos are worth checking out, they look pretty good and are much the same price as the bridgestones.

I will probably get them If i have the std rims then otherwise I will follow the 17 inch mag crowd.

The day i picked my car up from the dealer, i drove it straight down to the local tyre/rim shop and had some 17" rims fitted with 235/45/17 tyres.

They were doing a special rim and tyre package with the rims i wanted and used Simex tyres. (i think the model is 8000 or something?)

They are possibly the worst tyre i have ever used. They are way too soft and wear extremely quickly. They are also made in Malasia.

I am a fan of Bridgestone G III.

I am a fan of Bridgestone G III.I've always been a fan of Malysian tyres. If you ask for the long life tyre you'll get Malaysian ones typically going well over 100,000kms. Racing tyres with soft compound have very short life span. Tyres also have limited shelf life of 5 years after which they'll disintegrate quickly when used.

I found the Bridgestone GIII too noisy for my liking, they have good grip however but also short life. the GIII came with the car, I can't wait to wear them out to change them.

Yokohama's here. C-drives.
Sort of expensive but sticky. I got them cos they stopped making the A539's I had on previously and I loved those tyres. Big improvement over the stock Bridgestones for grip. The C-drives are the next step up. Mine are 235/45/R17 and cost $270 each from Bob Jane's. Not sure how much for the standard Magna size.

I got Maxxis MA-Z1 and they are fcicking fantastick. Unbelivable grip in the wet almost better then in the dry, nice and quiet. Motor magazine did a review not long ago and they outperformed the top $500 bridgestones.

3 other friends of mine with magnas have them now and vowed never to go back.

is that the g grid you talking about i've got them on my car and find them to be noisy. That's them. GIII were 3rd of the same series with G-Grid and GII were 1st and second versions. Designed for good grip with big block sections & grooves to channel away water in the wet. Unfortunately this made them very noisy, however it's a cheap sounding noise. The G-Grid and GII came in and went out of production very quickly because no one wanted them as they sounded horrible. The GIII addressed the noise issue somewhat but you can still hear them very loudly inside the well insulated magna.

I went back to the dealer a few days after collecting my AWD thinking the horrible humming noise were bearing failures. They weren't. Mitsubishi changed out the GIII with tyres off a demo magna with F1s and all was quiet. The dealer identified 2 tyres making the most noise and decided to go 1/2 with me changing them. I should have changed all 4 to a different type but decided to only change 2 & stay with GIIIs. Big mistake. Now they're humming again and it's very much pot luck when this'll happen if it happens & is dependent upon tyre wear and how they wear.

With my experience I won't use the GIII's again.

so what is a good 17' tyre with long wearI'm a fan of maxxis & goodyear, particularly F1s are proven competent performer. Ultimately it's a personal choice as there are many factors involved in choosing tyres. Cost, noise and life span are most important to me. This may differ for your consideration, the GIIIs have good grip so they have their circle of fans.
