Howdy peeps,

Well im going to be replacing a few gaskets (rocker cover and possibly the sump gasket - dependant on how difficult it is to remove the sump) on Jo's TR and i thought while im at it ill give the TB a clean (recommended by a mechanic).

Are there TB cleaning kits availabale? If so what are they called? or will a carby cleaner make do?

Carby cleaner will be fine, just make sure that you block the fast air idle and ISC valves with tape beforehand. If you'r taking the plenum chamber off as well might be a good idea to do that too. When I replaced my head lol there was a ****load of carbon in there as well. Just try not to spray it onto the injectors

ok, so the main thing to do is block the valves off and idle.. (hope thats covered in the PDF manual ahha)

I was thinking about checking the inside of the plenum. The car runs pretty rough when you turn the air con on.

Hello Bain,

Here's some information that may help you in your quest to clean the throttle body.

Hope it helps.

Yeah it should be covered in the PDF. I also gave the vacum(sp?),PCV, etc hoses a bit of a flush out cos they had crap all through them as well, pretty sure that the CRC is fine for this, although you could use turps instead.

Bain0 I just used carby cleaner and it worked fine. I actually squirted it in while it was running (keep in mind with no MAS attached it runs like a pig...) but it sucked it through the plenum (only little squirts, dont want to stall it) and it actually did make a difference. Mostly to the smoothness of idle.

if you want the best resault go to a work shop that uses wyns products

bit exy but worth it

throttlebody cleaner

and carbon blast

the throttle body cleaner is realy good stuff cleans without having to wipe out the black crap with a rag

the carbon blast will clean the rest of the intake the valves and seats the tops of pistons and some out of the exhaust manafolds...

all you do is hook a pipe from the bottle with a fishtank air tap and from the tap to the manafolds vacume. try get it near the center or near the throttle body, start motor turn tap untill motor dyes down in rpm but dont stall it,, let it run the whole bottle dry and soon as it is empty turn off motor and let it sit for 15 to 20 min ...then start it and go for a good burn and yes if theres clouds of smoke comming out the back it is normal.. the smoke is the carbon burning ...

ive had customers come back after ive done it to there cars and asked me what the hell i did to there car , they say its never ran that smoth and never had that much power:P
