Hi guys i am new to the club and am really sorry for starting another exhaust thread but I'm stuck!
I've gone through most of the available threads and visited exhaust shops but still can't decide. I own a TL ES sedan and want to change the rear muffler, besides performance gains I want loud and proud but definitly not a canon. I was thinking magnaflow race series (see pic), are they loud? If possible what sorta dB levels are they? Thanks.

ive got a cannon it looks nice and sounds great...... i highly recomend one.... ps if u get the cheap crap they sound and look crapppy! get one with heaps of insulation and muffling material these are usually very wide and longer in appearance!

Yea i know what you mean, but canon i definitly don't want cos i don't want to cut into my rear bumper and i don't think it will suit.

Excellent I can't wait to see what you say about sound, it would be great if you could post a recording! Go to this link and click on clip 1, this is what I would love mine to sound like even though I don't have a 3.8 engine...its from a new eclipse.

i havent measured it but it sounds like an f1 car wen it goes over 4.5grand frickin amazing... but mine is the 3.5litre... and u need to keep the stock piping and resonator for the good sound. as soon as u go changing the piping and removing crap.. ive found this in previous cars that they sound realy terrible

So if i did go for a canon what brand do you suggest, so that I don;t end up with a cheap and nasty. Magnaflow? X-force?

i got mine from autobarn. in queensland u can usually tell by the price not the brand. just and make sureits a fat chunky type! no a skinny type. the fatter they r the crisper and better quality the note is!

Oh ok, well my girls uncle owns car toys in south aust he said something about xforce, magnaflow being good and high quality mufflers. I should get them for close to cost price which is handy!

This one? Now im even more on edge to know how loud and what sound it will make cos the race version is supposedly louder.

NoFx
01-02-2006, 04:58 PM
yep thats the one, the exhaust i had on before was incrediable loud, way too loud, sounded awesome but yeah i got sick of it after a few months. is your car auto or manual? auto's tend to drone if ur exhaust aint set up right so take that into account aswell.

Braiod

Yea its tip-tronic, but im sure the boys down at exhaust techniques should do a good job. A guy i know had his R34 system done there, so if he could trust them with his very expensive import than I think I can do the same.

yeah mines tip tronic too and aint droney so should be sweet, well ill post up morrow with pics hopefully and ill try work out a sound file lol

Sounds sweet, too bad most shops don't carry dB meters cos id love to have it in writing. What is considered loud anyways? I had an mx6 with cat back and straight through oval muffler which everybody raved about, friends knew I was coming over cos they could hear the car a mile away! Wish I would have got it measured so I could compare.

I've got a twin cannon muffler that I just bought off eBay, and it sounds and looks awsome. I was in doubt about how it would sound before I got it put on, but once it was on and I heard it for the first time... Loved it and still do! I might take some pictures/sound clips of it tomorrow depending on the time I have to do so.

At the moment it is doing 125db. This means that if you are if the back seat, be prepared to get a huge headache. I will get a sound file when I find the digital recorder.

Jesus thats loud! What is 92db like, is it loud or not too loud cos when i put the single magnaflow on the guy said that is the range it will be at

lightningdav
06-02-2006, 10:58 AM
90 is the legal db range. When I first got the whole installation done if peaked at about 142db. (150 Breaks glass) If ever you would go for mufflers always go for magnaflow. If done right they sound just like a V8.

06-02-2006, 03:37 PM
Nah, I didnt do it myself, I just got it fitted down the local muffler place. I'm really happy with the job they've done on it, and it was only $90.

Braiod
06-02-2006, 09:13 PM
Yea i've heard that 90 is the legal db range, but what are your opinions...is it loud? The exhaust specialist reckons its more than loud enough, i know by putting a canon on it will push it over. I want to push it over but prefer a non-canon muffler so I have a stock look but definitely not stock sound.

Braiod

Hey THUGDOUT, are you still running the supercat twin pipes? Are they loud, legal etc?

lightningdav

With the setup like I have you will not have any trouble by the police, no matter how loud it is. My whole installation included the pacemaker extractors, comes to a total of $2000. It is turbo ready.

Erm... No its not... If you add a front mount turbo you have to get rid of the extractors in favor of custom made ones. If you add a rear mount turbo you get rid of your muffler... either way you have to change your set up :D

i love turbo motors. as the turbo itself acts a muffler, you can run a very minimal system and keep it (reletivly) legal. often a cannon is all thats needed
