Well, front splits, trims, and centre trim are done!
all of this took 4 days, most after school and late into the night/early morning starts.
in the 4 days i retrimmed both front doors in wadding, then in vynal, made custom MDF mount for the bottom of both doors, painted the centre trim, sound deadned both doors fully, and yeah! im so glad its done!!
i put them in and connected them to the HU, for any 2nd gen'rs out there who are going to re-route the speaker wire from the stock 4" position to the doors...be prepared, especially on the drivers side, to do that you have to take out the air con vent and undo all the electrical tape holding a massive bunch of wires together....ehh.....took me ageesss..
ANYWAY! i connected them up and what can i say? they sound fantastic! i have them slightly faded at the moment, just so you can hear the fronts and the rears the same, they both blend in so god damn nicely!....i listened to a bit of ministry of sound, and a bit of rammstein, and WOW they just sounded....so...good :)
well about 30+ hours later its all in and working and well the results show for themselves.
Thanks go to, My mum for covering the top door trims for me, and putting up with half an interior for a few days, me, for earning all the money to pay for this, and to a few guys off the AMC forums who have been really really helpful, you know who you are!
a few points though,
1. with my doors fully SD'd in and out, i still cant say i have a "mercedes style door shut sound" at all, it could be a few things like my mirrors and weathershields but im not to sure on it...
2. i screwed the woofers into the bottom MDF Baffle, it was very thick so thats all i needed :)
3. man i cant wait to get the rest in!
4. the paint on the centre trim is a different color to the vynal, but hell i cant be to picky its close enough!
heres some piccys!!!!!

looks wicked dude. good job
looks good mate, i dont c why the front speaker wires were so hard to remove
couldnt you just unplug wiggle and pull them out, or just leave them in and block the ends off and out of the way, just incase you ever wanna rewire anything there.
That vinyl looks good, does it have the same kinda pattern like the doors or is it nice and smooth, im looking at getting a deep fluro orange vinyl kinda stuff and black vinyl and re do the entire doors but **** that'll take a while to save up and do so maybe not til after year 12
good job mate, the sound deadening wouldnt be that bad, well not if you turn the volume up. :D
word of advice, dont let family drive it, they will think they can get off the hook when they scratch, spil or stain something. :D
whats next on your list
edit* just read your sig, sub, amp and mounts next lol

thanks guys!!!!
my mum hasnt even said anything, i said "gee it looks good", and she just walked out of the room snickering *** cow she never appreciates stuff i like...
anyway, yeah dave unfortunatly it is her car so i have no real option but to warn her every time she drives it.
and it wont cost you more then $35 to do that, vynal was $17, bit of glue, a staple gun, and 5mm MDF, very easy!
and no, vynal is smooth as! put 1" wadding behind the top trim and yeah, feels awesome, very tight, the bottom trim is only 4mm foam, intentionally as the speakers needed something to rest on (the MDF)
next on mods list? just to get the rest of the stereo out of the way!
well you beat me at getting it done
and i havent finished my alarm, its like i have a dozen half finished things in my car.......maybe i can install my stereo and re do my interior for my art prac final lol :D a practical art piece :D
good luck with the rest and watch out for left over screws, it can be o so worrying

i plan to put in front splits, but dun hav the cash atm to even buy them lol, so im prolly gunna cut out the hole for them in the mdf, but have the vinyl going over the hole for the time beeing, then just cut it out with a knife later on...

Heheh, it'll magically get dirty. It's like when you go out with a white t-shirt, it'll some how end up dirty by the end of the night. :)

Looking really good. Colour compliments the car really well and doesn't look over done like some I've seen. Next step, get some seat covers to match. Something mostly black with the same sort of burgundy would suit really well. Hope your mum learns to appreciate your hard work....or atleast gives you the car when it's time for a new one

Now that's a job well done. Perfect choice of vinyl colour, imo. Just have to match the seats too, but that can wait. :P

Marty, Mad iX, yeah the seat covers are only temp will i find some nice black throw overs.....
D@ve - i have plenty of left over screws :P :P like 7 or 8.....
it has come up nicely, im painting centre console soon, jellico inspired me, just never had the urge to pull apart the car, but it was like 12 screws to get to it all so it was piss easy...
but its coming along nicely.......
im just stoked so many of you like it.....

Most Parents cannot understand why we modify our cars and not leave them as they were from the Factory..
They all seem to think we are mad...
This is why they cannot appreciate unlike we do as we understand why we mod our cars...
I cannot count how many times I have had to explain to my Parents that Base model Cars are not Perfect from the factory.. Cars are Built to a Budget and therefore use inferior parts..
I mean it is hard for my parents to understand that the Base model Stereo is not the way music should sound like...$2 Speakers cannot reproduce audio properly...
Tuff you have done an Outstanding Job for a DIY install and it looks Great...
Your mother may not appreciate your work but we do..
What will she think when the next stage she will no longer be able to go Grocery Shopping??
This alone should be motivation for her to get her self another car..

What will she think when the next stage she will no longer be able to go Grocery Shopping??
hehe, ive told her shes going to be losing most of the boot, so i think grocerys will have to go in the back seat, or she can take my dads wagon:P
This alone should be motivation for her to get her self another car..
she is looking at a toyota yaris atm, i dont care what she gets, just something, so she can stop ruining this car.
i just washed the car and took it outside and took some photos, cranked up the stereo a bit aswell  i just cant belive the difference it had made, and to think the sound is only coming from the HU! i cant imagine how loud they will be with 4-5 times the power going through them!!
and i was sceptical at first of the splits working in harmony with the 6*9s...but my god they sound soo soo good. as soon as i get my paws on some rear trims ill do those aswell the same style as i have done the fronts.
i really can't believe so many of you like it, im stoked!
and "s_tim_ulate" in regards to the sound deadning, i have about 3L of paint on sound deadning left, i was wondering if this was suitable for underneath the parcel shelf, bootlid, and the boot itself (the metal under the carpet)??
cheers again guys it really is worth all the time and effort when i get such positive feedback.
also, "tr-envy" i was going to screw the speakers into the frame as i have told you, but the screws were too short, and they felt quite tight sitting in the MDF baffle that you see there. so yeah, i got no complaints or anything, they dont vibrate or anything, thats what i love about the sound deadning, if you have all the windows up you cant hear a noise or vibration. open doors BAM theres the music.
:D :D
